using console as Media server?

I am planning on using either my ps3 or 360 to stream music from a media server on my PC, probably after i get Windows 7 sorted if i decide to bite the bullet on that one.
not sure which console is best to use for this, soes anyone have experience with both?? my 360 is only used for gaming really and my ps3 for Bluray mostly and the occasional DVD so was kinda thinking i would use my ps3.
and can this all be done in the seemingly hated iTunes or does it have to be done in a dedicated program?

Cheers

Re: using console as Media server?

Having both xbox and ps3 i have to say that i'm using ps3 as a media device more often. When streaming movies, pictures and audio it just works faster and it's more reliable, IMHO. I'm using tversity and "ps3 media server" and i think i like the second one better, at least as far as ps3 is concerned (both of them are working with xbox and ps3).
I have no idea how would itunes work. I'm using them two because they support transcoding so i dont have to worry about file formats.

Re: using console as Media server?

Windows 7 itself automatically transcodes files if needed and streaming is built in to Media Player 12, no need for third party software mate

As for which console is best for streaming I've used both and they're almost identical. Just use whichever console you prefer the user interface of
