Re: unidentified network with crossover cat5e cable

Hi,

As you're using a direct connection to your Xbox 360 from your Laptop I assume you're letting you Laptop run DHCP? What IP addresses have they both been assigned with and what is the Subnet mask? Setting the IP addresses manually may be better if you are having problems.

I also assume you are trying to stream content from your Laptop, music and movies etc. What program on your Laptop are you using to share your content, WMP 11, TVERSITY, Media Center?

Re: unidentified network with crossover cat5e cable

yes its main intention is to stream movies etc but if i can get it to connect i will bridge the connection (wirless) to gain xbox live but that isnt really the issue.
My xbox ip is 169.254.2.235 and my PC says 169.254.185.21
the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0
i presume the laptop is already running DHCP.

Re: unidentified network with crossover cat5e cable

Right those addresses are no good. You want to have addresses in the range of either 192.168.0.x or 10.0.0.x X being the address of your laptop and 360.

Assign the addresses manually, one for your Laptop's NIC card which can be found under your network settings (location dependent on your Laptops OS of course) and one for the 360 via it's network settings page.

Either of the above two ranges will work so it doesn't matter which one you choose though the 192.168.x.x range is generally the most common. Set the PC as 02 and the 360 as 03 and then make the Subnet 255.255.255.0.

Once the above is set you'll then need to use some media server software to stream with, TVersity is very good and comes recommended.

Re: unidentified network with crossover cat5e cable

ok
i have manually configured both IP addresses, the one for my laptop is (192.168.1.8), and the one for my xbox is (192.168.1.9), the subnest mask is as you say (255.255.255.0), i have set the gateway on my xbox to the same as the laptop. originally they were set to (192.168.1.3) for laptop and (192.168.1.4) fo xbox but had same problem as below, but it would let me access files via video library, but when i bridged the connection it came up with an IP conflict which is why i changed it to the below addresses.

now when i test the connection on my xbox it will connect to the network but not to the laptop, it will not let me access my files via video library, but does acknowledge that my lpatop is there.

i am wanting to bridge the connection also so i can access xbox live.
