Best Way To Connect 360 For Media?

Hi this is a bit of a general question and for that i apologise.
I have a PC running Vista Home Premium so have Media Centre capabilities. i also have a 320gb external hard disk that is formatted to FAT32 so the 360 can see it (currently blank but will be the media storage disk). Everything at the moment is on a disk in my pc. Both pc and 360 are networked via my router.

The question i have is that if i wanted to watch (via the 360) DVDs that are currently in the normal DVD format (e.g. the 'Video_TS' folder /Vob files), watch the odd DIVX, view the odd photo and listen to MP3s, what is the best way to connect?
***EDIT***
I have just read a post saying 360 wont play DVD files in .vob format. Is this true via Media Centre considering they will (and do) play on the actual PC via Media Player?

I have read the FAQ's but it seems that Media Centre is more 'restrictive' in what it will play than an external drive connected directly to the 360?! I'm a little confused.(i looked at the table shown)

I have no problem porting a disk between the 2 to update but then Media Centre i guess is nicer to use?!Can anyone suggest a way who uses the 360 to do all this?!
thanks
