FAT32 or HFS+... Do a search here on AVF, plenty of "external HDD and Xbox360" threads already

I know FAT32 is compatible, what sizes are the hdds you are trying to connect? Don't think there is a size limit though as I have a 120gb and 1TB that I have connected without any issues.

There is no size limit for the Hard Drive but a size limit of the files.
You can format a whole drive as FAT32 and the 360 will recocgnise it but the files on the HDD has to be under 4gb for them to work on a FAT32 formatted drive.

Re: Using external hdd on Xbox 360

Also, windows by default won't let you format FAT32 volumes above 32Gb.. however you can get around this by using something like FAT32Format.. a little command line utility found easily with a quick google search

Re: Using external hdd on Xbox 360

I would consider formating the drive if possible and trying it again. I have a number of drives including one that has 2 partitions formated FAT32 100GB and NTFS 60GB and the all work fine. (Obviously the NTFS area is not visble)

The 120gb is a Lacie drive (runs off of USB power), the 1TB is a Buffalo Drive Station which has a mains power supply.

When youy go to your video library it should give you the option to select the "Portable Device" if that's what you mean.

Just stick a single file under 4Gb on the root of the drive and see if it shows up.
