Re: sky on xbox 360

Apparently the service and pricing will be similar to the Sky Player service currently available via the internet. If I understand right, that means it will be available for free to those with a Sky subscription already, but there are rumours you need a multiroom sub for the premium channels like Sports/Movies.

Watch TV Online | Sky Player

Late this year I think is a vague date set?

im one of the lucky ones to be a beta tester for Sky Player for the 360 and at the moment you will need a multi room sub to get the other channels like sports and all the other TV channels but i find that a pain as i live in a flat so im unable to get multi room.
as for the movies they are still free and the who system is working well. not sure when it will be out to the public but its a great step for Sky and the 360
oh and as far as i know it would be free if you have multi room

Re: sky on xbox 360

all i know at the moment (and i could be wrong) is that you will need Sky TV to have Sky player regardless if its not the 360 or PC.
if you do have Sky TV the player for movies are free on both xbox and PC but you would need a multi room subscription (sub) to view some of the TV Chanel's and sports.
i dont have multi room so i dont have all the chanels but im able to get sky movies so i guess that would be free as well.

Re: sky on xbox 360

If I've got this right, you have to have a multiroom account to enable sky sports / movies on your 360? I have my 360 in my lounge, just above my sky box. I pay for movies and sports so they expect me to pay an extra £10 a month so I can watch it through my 360?

I'll just continue to press the source button on my remote and watch as I do now if so.

yea that sounds right.
i think the idea of sky on the xbox is so that you can watch TV in another room, if the xbox is in the same room as the sky box then there is little point having sky player anyway unles you want to watch movies and you dont need mulit room for that. if they made it free then it would cut down on people using multi room.
like i said before, im just a tester and nothing i say is 100% until the day that sky player is out.

Re: sky on xbox 360

ok this sounds a rip.....

i am think mark my words but lets understand this.

i can (when out) get an xbox and use this as my sky source however i will need to pay a further £10 quid to view certain content (ie multi room sub evan if not in a multi room).

I though they replaced your sky box with an xbox and that was that..... i thought it would be assigned to a perticuler machine via serial code or something.

Stupid question? do you still need a dish as with xbox movies you dont so can this not all be over the internet also?

when is this out....

i very rarly watch anything unless in hd movie and as such for the basic stuff i use play tv over ps3 at the mo so is this evan worth it if not hacked abouut he movies ect...

if no dish and can be linked to a certain xbox via cerial and can get free view ect..... then when is it out?

Havnt got a clue when its out and i would have though that you would need a sky tv contract to have this on the xbox so you would need a dish and set top box.
if i get some more constructive info and dates i will let you guys know as im just in the dark as the rest of you with regards to cost and when its out to the public

Thanks for the reply, please don't get me wrong though, any thoughts you have from your testing are appreciated, I've just been curious as to how Sky are planning on implementing it

im happy to keep you guys posted and i will try and find out about how it will price up.
as for the sky player its self so far so good. ive got a 5/6meg connection and with films or live TV i have no problems and it and it all buffers well.
the quality is also good but no HD yet but i can imagine that this would happen one day, also no option to download so again maybe soon?
its all very xbox at the moment so if you think about how the market place works its kinda the same. scroll up and down for TV on demand, live TV and movies. then its left and right to select the channel or film category.
i think this is a great move for sky as sky player on the PC is great but i found it a pain to play them on the TV. now its on the xbox i have no issues.

The point is that sky player is a catchup if you miss the live broadcast. I wont pay extra, instead I'll just use my htpc for the pc version if I ever need to.

Do you subscribe to the movies package by any chance?

I read a press release, fairly sure it was posted on here, that said if you want to watch 'catch up' TV programmes (like BBC iPlayer but Sky programming) you need a Sky sub + XBL Gold and you'll be able to watch programmes from channels you subscribe to. To be able to watch live TV on the xbox will require a regular Sky sub + XBL Gold + EITHER Sky Multiroom (for £10/month extra) OR the highest Sky broadband package.

I'll have a dig and see if I can find the link.

Basic Sky package is £17.95.

I'm wondering if you will need a second multi-room for the 360, I already have 1 multi-room sub but that only covers 1 additional digibox.

Re: sky on xbox 360

I work for Sky and as yet we have only had the same brief everyone else has had. No date has been set yet. But as someone earlier posted i would assume you would need a multi-room sub to get the sky player access as this is what you need right now.

But if you dont have a Multi-Room subs but have Sky Broadand Unlimited then you could also get access to sky player. The good thing about having the multi-room and access to sky player at the moment is that say you lived at home but then moved away to go to uni, You can still watch the sky subscription on your laptop/computer at the uni dorm/flat you have moved to , your parents are paying for at home (As long as your parents keep the sky & Multi-Room subs going). All you do is sign up at sky.com, and follow the online prompts on what to do.

So thats what makes me think it'll work the same way. If i receive any dates soon, I'll update everyone.

Well as a Sky Customer i think it sucks.
I dont have Multiroom but i have the Full Sky Package + HD and Sky Broadband Connect and i pay nearly £80 a month for sky and i wont be able to use this feature on my Xbox because i dont have Unlimited(not available in my area) or Multiroom.

Sorry not having a go at you but i'm a little annoyed as i was looking forward to using this but wont be able to or i will have to pay another subscription

Yeah i hear the same complaints all the time and i totally agree with you. As staff, And not just me here, We are always saying this to the bosess who tell us they feed this back "Upstairs" but we never hear anything back.
It is crap really and something Sky need to look at. I mean asking someone like yourself to pay out a extra £9.75 for Multi-Room subs is bad. But they may do something different when this fully released, Who knows.

Not sure if you do have to be a sky customer though to get this as this page says...

Watch great Sky TV via your Xbox 360

Re: sky on xbox 360

Well I was quite excited about this as its a step in the right direction to having one unit do all type thing. However, if Sky are going to be charging for it then count me out. They can keep their stupid progress! I feel that they are pricing themselves out of a decent product/market. Its similar to TomTom on the iPhone, they priced it so highly that many people who had been anticipating it just turned round and said 'nah'. Im no businessman though, so what do I know?!
