Exclamation Help.

Hi,
I recently brought a Philips 42PF7520D, the only problem that I am having with the TV is when I play back certain avi files through my Xbox360 they look awful (Cinema copies at best). The films play mint through my previous TV and through my daughters TV upstairs but can’t seem to improve the quality on my new TV.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is now becoming very annoying. Sadly I am new to forums and not very technically minded so be gentle.

Thanks in advance for any one who can help.

Reg007.

Could be the fact that the Panel is so good its picking up all the flaws of the poor quality movies??

If it is not bad at viewing anything else, ie DVD, BR, FTA then I would suggest that the panel is showing the flaws..

Re: Help.

Using dvi at the mo. The TV does not have any hdmi ports which is a real pain.

In responce to 24p that went through my mind but the files play mint through other TVS and both my laptop and pc.

Re: Help.

i dont know, whats it set at..
the only thing you can do is to play with the settings a bit, in the display area of the 360, and also on your tv, and try to find a happy medium..
no-one could really tell you what to set it to, as it will be your viewing location, and room lighting that will affect it, and all down to personal preference, to be honest.

maybe if its too pale, set the levels to expanded, on the 360, try RGB or source for video if it can be picked via dvi.
then you would have to try the various settings on the tv to maybe darken the image or lighten it if need be.

Re: Help.

not a fool, no, its just without knowing what the issue is, is it the colour/brightness/ or black levels, motion, or size(letterbox/4:3) problem..
if you have component inputs, it might help to try them.
some tv's give a more cartoony, coloured look with the component connections, also component on some tv's looks better, its all down to individual models.

Re: Help.

The films just seem very pixel heavy. The only way i can think to describe them is they resemble poor quality cinema copies. The films as i said before play mint on all other TV's in the house and on both my laptop and pc at home and work. The same files also play mint on a friends 50" tv so i was realy stuck top find a solution.
Could the problem be playing the files through the Xbox360, would for eg - the western digital media player improve the picture quality or is it down to the TV.

Re: Help.

does the tv have a sharpness setting, if it does, turn it right down.
or like i say, try component, see how that looks, you may find it looks better than dvi, on your model tv.
