360 and NAS without a PC

I have a blackarmor nas (has DLNP media sharing enabled)

The 360 can see it and I got it to play a video ONCE

But now it will not refresh the list of what is on the NAS no matter what I do. Everything has been rebooted multiple times.

Is there anyway to get the NAS (NTFS btw) to refresh the list the xbox sees??

Re: 360 and NAS without a PC

My QNAP works by going into it's multimedia settings via an internet browser and using the "Rescan directories" setting. There is an option to have it do this automatically at a time period of my choice (currently every 2 hours). Try that.

Smile similar problem

I want to stream media (mp3, divX, etc) to the Panasonic 42v10 (DLNA). I tried it with a WD my book and it worked BUT the laptop had to be on (twonky media running). I would like to buy a NAS server so that the laptop will no longer be needed. Will Buffalo Linkstation Live do the job or I have to go for the Linkstation Mini.

I have been looking for an answer for 4-5 hours now. I need the cheapest 1 or 1,5TB LAN HDD that can stream WITHOUT a PC to the TV (and to PS3 in future).
//maybe wrong post, but I am frustrated//

Which version of the Mybook do you have? The 'white light' version has Twonky pre-installed and will auto-scan directories for any new content you put in them.

I'm able to stream content from my MyBook NAS to a Samsung B650 TV, a WDTV Live box and 2 Xbox 360s, all without my laptop needing to be switched on.

That's the old, blue ring version which doesn't come with Twonty pre-installed.

The one I'm on about (and own) is this:
Western Digital My Book World Edition 2TB Home Network: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

That version comes with Twonty Version 4.4.9 and with a recent firmware upgrade, you can twack that version up to 5.1. In general its a bit faster than the blue-ring version.

that's an option. how about Buffalo LinkStation Mini 1.0TB 2.5" Shared Network Storage with DLNA server and what's the diference with Buffalo LinkStation Live 1TB MultiMedia Network Attached Storage with Built-In BitTorrent Client?
Because they DO have a difference in the price. Which one do I need?

thank you for you advise.

The mini version looks like it takes 2 drives, meaning (in theory) that you could set it up so that when data is written to one drive, its automatically written to the other drive (which acts as a backup).

The 'single-drive' NAS boxes (like the Live 1TB MultiMedia Network Attached Storage) are cheaper, but it depends on how valuable your data is. If the hard drive for a single-drive NAS goes down, and you haven't backed up your data recently.......

If you've already got most of your data backed up (and commit yourself to somesort of backup plan), then something like the LinkStation Live 1TB MultiMedia Network Attached Storage (or the Mybook - that comes with a BitTorrent Client too thanks to a recent firmware upgrade) will probably do.

I dunno what DLNA media server is on the LinkStation, but the Mybook uses Twonty and the user manual even has instructions on getting the Xbox 360 to see the NAS:
