media file problems since NXE?!?

Hi everyone,

I have been using my XBOX360 as a media player for a year or so now with minimal issues. My XBOX is connected to my Panasonic 42PX70 via VGA so i was able to get up to 720p which i was happy with (audio is an optical connection to my onkyo 605 amp).

I used to copy my media files (divx, avi etc) onto a memory stick which id connect to the usb ports on the pront of the xbox and play them directly from there which was fine.....however....

i dont have xbox live but i did manage to update my dashboard to the new Xbox dashboard. Ever since Ive done this the xbox has struggled to play 90% of the movie media files that I have tried to watch from my usb memory stick. The xbox normally says that it is unable to play that media type and needs to connect to xbox live to do so?!?!?

Any ideas...many thanks guys

You may need to connect the xbox to live and download the latest codecs.

I'm in the same situation - banned xbox360 not playing movies from PC with Windows 7 media centre.
Funny thing is that I managed to play a few movies until it scanned the whole library, then no movie would play, saying that it need the "optional media update" which I can't find anywhere!

Re: media file problems since NXE?!?

I think if your 360 is banned you're pretty screwed on the codec front, I find that media centre extender won't even connect to my PC if I don't have an internet connection (i'm not banned, just had a month of no internet, thanks virgin!). It may have just been my licsenses, I recently transfered them (once I got internet back) and haven't needed to run it without internet so this may well have fixed it.
