Can't stream from PC - 360 not in WMP share list?

After using a Soundbridge Homemusic for a while, I decided I would try using my 360, and so be able to use the Homemusic somewhere else around the house.

I've read the FAQ and done some searching but not having any luck.

Opened up WMP11 > Library > Media Sharing

The soundbridge is in the list (obviosuly, as I have been using this) and other PC users, but no mention of my 360. I have the 360 on and connected to Live.

I've got the relavant services running, SSDP Discovery, UPnP Device Host and Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service, have disable my firewall - but still no joy.

I am running Vista Basic on my laptop, which is on a wireless network from my Netgear router, to which the 360 is wired via ethernet. My live account works fine.

Any ideas? Is it something to do with the ports or access rights on my Netgear router?

I had a quick look in the setting but not sure what I needed to change/check.

After having my 360 this long, I can't beleive I haven't though of using it for media streaming. I was thinking of upgrading my Homemusic to something with a larger screen and better output, when I had my 360 sitting there next to it, lol!!

Re: Can't stream from PC - 360 not in WMP share list?

I'm having the exact same problems. XP was no trouble at all but on Vista no matter what I do it seems to block me one way or another like an over protective parent. Even programs like Vuze and Tversity cant get past all the Vista security gates. Ive given up now and just use an HDMI from laptop to amp.

If a solution is found I'd be interested too.

Re: Can't stream from PC - 360 not in WMP share list?

I had problems when i got new vista (using tversity) but discovered it just dont work with any firewalls on and dont know enuf to get round it in any way apart from turning it all off. So windows firewall is off aswell as my Mcafee firewall is off too.
Then i have to start tversity then "restart sharing" and it works fine with 360 and ps3.
WMP was just all problems so ditched using that ages ago. tversity so simple and easy everyone should use it.
I'd ditch wmp and try tversity.

I'd like to get it working on WMP if I can, it was fine when I added my Soundbridge anyway.

If not I'll have to try something like tversity as you suggest

I may try turning off all of the firewall suff in the router to see if it's an access thing.

Re: Can't stream from PC - 360 not in WMP share list?

Netgear routers have a feature called "wireless isolation" - if this is turned on it stops the wired ethernet seeing the wireless network (which sounds like your problem)...check if that is enabled in the "Wireless Settings" (or something similiar sounding) router config page

Re: Can't stream from PC - 360 not in WMP share list?

If you're not able to stream using WMP, find an alternative program.

Vuze now supports the ps3 and the xbox 360 and works much better for me than wmp11 or tversity.

Re: Can't stream from PC - 360 not in WMP share list?

Yay - I've sorted it!

I read an old thread on here (2006 iirc) about someone who had an older version of my router, and they upgraded the firmware to fix the problem.

Downloaded the latest firmware, uploaded to router - and now it's all OK

Now I'm sitting here trying to see which sounds better, the 360 or my Soundbridge HomeMusic.

The difference being I use optical out on my 360 so I'm getting 5.1 out which is then converted by the amps (Yam RX-V640RDS) DAC, whereas the HomeMusic only has lineout so is already converted using it's own DAC (unless the Yam converts it again ADC>DAC, I've been down this road before and didn't get a straight answer from Yamaha back then!!).

Undoubtedly it'll be easier to use via the 360 as the tiny screen on the HomeMusic is not match for a 32" LCD, lol!!

I'll have to get a little setup sorted upstairs and move the HomeMusic up there!
