RROD again!

Well I've just had the RROD for the fourth time now. I'm about to move in a few weeks time so don't want my xbox going back to the wrong address if I send away to get repaired.

As i'm moving in above my brothers flat I suppose I could always pick up an Elite for me and when i get the repaired one back give it to him for some multiplayer action. I must admit though it annoys me that i'm rewarding defective hardware design with MORE hardware sales.

Damn, that's unlucky. Although it will be pretty sweet for your brother to get a free Xbox!

Re: RROD again!

Have you tried fixing it yourself? Search on ebay for RROD repair kit. They cost around £6 and are pretty straight forward to install.

I used it on my second RROD last week and it was up and running again in a little over an hour

Re: RROD again!

Oh yeah, it's probably worth pointing out that this will invalidate your warranty, but its a quick and easy fix!

Re: RROD again!

I've just experienced my 2nd RRoD. Happened earlier today. Sent it off to the MS repair centre the first time around. I thought that once they fixed it, it was guaranteed not to happen again. Anybody know if this is right?

Re: RROD again!

I dont think so. Thats too bold a statement to say it is gauranteed never to happen again. There gaurantee only states, that should it happen again within 3yrs, you will receive a free repair or replacement console of the same standard, i.e refurbished. Which could possibly go gangster on you too at some point

MS will just replace the motherboard and dvd drive, so you are infact getting a new console internally, that has exactly the same amount of chance of getting a failure as the one before it.

If they fit the Opus motherboard then they're slightly more reliable than the Xenon's of the originals of course. They're still not right though as we know from the Falcons that have failed too (which is what the Opus is minus the HDMI port).

Yup Nicks right, most likely you will get the exact same board brand new that has failed on you after however long and fail on you around the same time again, with only one extra modification, an extra fancy bit on the GPU heatsink and possibly epoxy round the chips, which really does nothing to be fair, they still RROD with it on.

Re: RROD again!

Have you tried overheating it? Turn on the 360 and wrap it in a blanket until you get 2 red lights (overheat warning) then turn it off and let it cool down before giving it another go.

Might not work for you, but at least this one won't invalidate your warranty.

Re: RROD again!

MS don't seem to swap the DVD-ROM anymore, or they didn't swap my BEN-Q.

I think more often than not they do, my friend got his back last week with a new drive after a RROD. They have to flash the drive firmware with the new security keys when they change the motherboard so its probably common practice to swap both then refurbish the replaced drive ready for future repairs.
