Faulty xbox premium - loss of video output. Best way to fix?

My xbox premium console has just started to play up - last night and earlier this evening the video has simply cut-off whilst in the middle of a game. The console isn't freezing completely though as the controls are still responsive & I can hear the audio through my speakers.

I currently have the console connected to my TV with an official MS VGA cable. The last time the video cut out I decided to switch over to the component connection to determine if the problem was with the cable. However, when I try to power it on now I can't get a video signal at all - neither with component or composite. I tried reverting to VGA, but that isn't working now at all either.

Now, because the console isn't actually freezing I'm not getting the RROD - so I know it probably won't be covered by their extended warranty. Does anyone know if there's a simple fix for this? Is it best to just have MS repair it anyway even though I have to pay?

As it happens, I have two xbox consoles. The other one is an elite which I just got back from MS (last Friday!) following a RROD repair. Looks like the xbox gremlins have taken a shine to me!
