Strange noise from my Elite

When on the dashboard and there is a disc in the drive my xbox is emmiting a deep humm/vibrating noise. Removing the disc from the tray stops the noise. Does the disc constantly spin in the drive even when on the dashboard?
Anyway it will need to go back to be fixed (it only developed this fault recently). I bought it from gamestation. Does anybody know their returns policy? Will they exchange in on the spot for a new one or will they get it repaired?

Re: Strange noise from my Elite

you can set the load disc settings on the xbox so when you close the tray with a game in it, it will not run until you select it on the dashboard..

if the disc is still spinning and making a strange noise when you have not selected to play the game it could either be its have trouble reading the disc, so it could be the laser..

or the motor is on it way out..

i had a dvd player that did the same, (the drives are very simular..)

as for gamestation polyicy's on returns.. a friend of mine took hes back to game station and they told him to contact microsoft.. to get it fixed there..

but it may depend on how long u have had it and if you stil have the recepit..

if you do they may exhange it for you there and then..

hope this helps... good luck

to my understanding the disc spins at the dashboard, then when you start the game if its installed the disc will stop spinning,

Yip, definately not normal, I have had 4 xbox's and this is the first I have heard the noise. It also only started a week ago.
