Connecting my xbox 360 to surround sound and HD TV

Can anyone help!!!
I have a LCD HD TV connected to my wall. From this runs
a scart lead (inside the wall) connecting to my sky box located a few feet across the room. The sky box has to scart sockets. The tv scart cable is attached to one and my DVD player to the other. Both are connected to my surround system and work perfectly. Once I turn my DVD player on it automatically connects to the tv and the surround sound works.

My problem is if I replace the DVD connection on back of sky box with the Xbox connection there is no signal being
picked up just the sky plus signal. I can connect my x box to the side of my LCD using the yellow, white and red cables minus a scart but this is messy and has wires running everywhere and my x box sitting on the mantle piece, last time my 2 year old pulled it down and smashed it! Also surround sound is not possible as the cable is too short to run from the side of the tv back to my surround system.

Can anyone help!!!???

Paul

Re: Connecting my xbox 360 to surround sound and HD TV

yeah, stop using composite for the xbox 360, and use component(red-green-blue), vga, or hdmi(if yours is a newer model).
your getting what it probably the worst picture quality imaginable.

connect the video directly to the tv,and then if you use component/vga, an optical audio lead from your xbox 360 lead,to your surround system(hopefully it will have an optical audio in).
if its hdmi, you will need to have a look around for an "audio adaptor",or if you have an elite xbox, this comes in the box.

thats the only way to get 5.1 surround from the xbox 360, any other way is poor quality video, and stereo sound - not how you want it to be!!, to be honest.

Re: Connecting my xbox 360 to surround sound and HD TV

Maybe I have confused you.
Basically my TV is wall mounted and the only access points I have to it are through the side. I have 3 cable options.
The basic yellow, red and white cables which I agree are crap. I also have the lead which has red, green and blue leads but these done seem to be able to connect, there are 6 connections on this cable various colours ( got this from a friend). I also have a HDMI connection with the red and white sound connectors plugged into a small jack which give me great picture etc but no surround and the cables are too short to run back to my surround system.
My tv is about 8 feet away from my surround system at the min. Are there some kind of extension cables, connectors available to I can keep my HDMI in and run the red and white sound ends approx 8 feet back into my surround sound system?

Its more a logistics issue If I knew the type of extension cable I needed it should work?
