RROD...AGAIN!!! What are my options??

Today I got the RROD again. This will be the 5th time in 3yrs that my console has been sent for repair. I know I'm still covered for a free repair as the 3yrs warranty for the first RROD still applies. But I only just got it back since xmas eve when the DVD drive went belly up. That cost me £16.00 with a further one year warranty.

I'm now totally sick of the console altogether and I have no confidence in Microsoft whatsoever!!

I do not want the console back now, so what are my options??

There has to come a time when the amount of repairs that get done are totally unreasonable and a brand new console be issued to me. I.E the newer models with the HDMI connection that supposedly have these problems ironed out. A sweetner of crappy games titles and cheap bits of hardware will not cut it. I've had that already.

I know there are a million and one of these threads out there, but everybody's case is unique so my answers are not out there. Some people are happy to go along constantly having there console repaired but I am not. It's either a brand new one, or shove the old one where the sun don't shine Microsoft.

Can anyone tell me where I stand on this one and who I should contact.

Thanks.

Re: RROD...AGAIN!!! What are my options??

Legally, you are now tied to Microsoft and they have a responsibility to fulfil the terms of their warranty to you. In that warranty, it doesn't state (unfortunately) that you have any right to demand a new console, but they can continue to repair as they see fit. That's where you stand legally.

Your best bet is to hold this conversation with their customer services and see what they say. I don't know if they could be persuaded, but I'm afraid it's your last hope for a new console free of charge.

Only Microsoft can answer that question - have you rung them with that question? I suspect their warranty is only one year from purchase rather than repair, but I've never seen any conclusive evidence either way.

Re: RROD...AGAIN!!! What are my options??

See my thread here dude, exactly the same issue

Enough is enough

Microsoft will NOT budge on this, it doesn't matter how many consoles you've been through. Their customer service is utterly abysmal, and you won't get a new console, never mind a Jasper. In theory you are screwed, you either have to grin and bear it and send it off for repair, or try and blag something or be crafty via another method (eBay, trade or whatever)

I got lucky and the boys in Gamestation sorted me out, but that only happened as I'm a loyal customer and they are ridiculously friendly. My sympathies. I wonder what the current record is for amount of consoles going wrong for one person is?

Re: RROD...AGAIN!!! What are my options??

I've just spent the last couple of minutes typing out a letter to Xbox support management. see what you think.

I'm not trying to blag anything for free here and I'm serious in what I say.

I'm at the point where I don't want the thing any more. If I don't get a satisfactory result I will go out and buy a PS3.

I've only just sold my HD DVD drive and 8 movies for a mere £30.00 on EBAY. Not to mention the several new games bought over Xmas. Microsoft and there software partners have had a lot of money out of me. But it could be there last.

I'm fully aware that Microsoft have no legal obligation to grant my request but they will loose a long time customer.

I believe the three year warranty applies to the date when the first RROD repair was carried out. So yes, your still covered. But only for the RROD. Anything else i.e faulty DVD drive, then you will need to pay for the repair.

Re: RROD...AGAIN!!! What are my options??

An update.

No need for me to send the letter. I contacted MS and was escalated to the management/supervisors. I had to hold for 67 minutes and as you can imagine my temper was a little short when i eventually spoke to a manager.

He agreed that this was an unreasonable amount of repairs and because I paid for my last repair (DVD drive) 3 weeks ago, which included a new one year warranty, that I was entitled to a brand new console.

Also there would be no need to print off UPS labels, box up the console and arrange collection because a courier would be out within the next 48 hours with all that sorted for me. All I need to do is hand him the console. As soon as the old one arrives in the repairs centre the new one will be sent out to me.

I'm not bothered if it's an elite or one with the HDMI connection as long as it's a new one.

I know not everyone gets this kind of treatment but this just proves,

"If you don't ask , you don't get."

Re: RROD...AGAIN!!! What are my options??

The trouble is though not many people do ask and if they do it's a half hearted attempt.

I'm never happy if I get something that doesn't work correctly or that doesn't last as long as it perhaps should just like anyone else. But I would never let it go and always demand something in return.

You have to be forceful with them if you ring up sounding like your a pushover they will treat you like one.

In the past two months I've had a £20 credit from my electrical company, £10 from tesco plus refund of an item and £7 off my sky connect broadband.

Plus last year I had my whole Sky package for half price for 3 months! I hope my 360 gets the RROD because I want an Elite and would do everything I can to get one off them :D
