Xbox 360 Warranty Options?

Hi

I want to buy a Xbox 360 Elite in the next couple of weeks
and have a few questions about warranties.

1. Obviously the 360 comes with a 1 year warranty from microsoft, but if it does break down
during this time who would i contact about a repair or replacement, microsoft or the retailer i bought the console from?

2. What would i do if the 360 breaks down after the 1 year warranty has expired, apparantly with the PS3
sony will repair or replace the console free of charge no matter how old the machine is, do microsoft do anything similar?

3. I hear that the 360 comes with a 2 year service contract for approx £60, so if anything happens
to the machine they will repair or replace it free of charge is this service worth getting?

I could really use everybodies help.

Thankyou

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty Options?

i recommend using Game/Gamestation as they offer a no quibble guarantee that if any fault occurs they will replace it straight away

I'd recommend having a read through the FAQ at the top of this forum, I think that covers alot of it.

1. If the 360 breaks down within a year take it back to the retailer you bought it from and you are entitled to an exchange/refund. Additionally Microsoft has a 3 year guarantee on the RROD problem - if it breaks down due to that MS arranges to pick up the console via UPS and they'll repair it (for free).

2. See above. If your 360 breaks down past a year and it isn't down to the RROD you have two choices:
# pay the £60 it costs to have MS repair the console for you, or
# 'enduce' your 360 into succumbing to the RROD (aswell as whatever other problems it has) and then send it off to MS to be repaired for free

3. To be honest I've never heard of that service contract. You can however get insurance out on the 360 from the retailer (depending on where you buy it).

Hope that answers your questions!

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty Options?

MS do offer an extended guarantee, not sure how much but to be honest, the gamestation/game ones are cheaper and just as good from what I've read.

As for the ps3... I'm pretty sure that the only free out-of-warranty repairs I've heard of are either a: a result of very good fortune b: blagging it c: lying or d: Sony making light of MS's earlier problems with reliability of the 360. Don't go buying a ps3 expecting to have a free lifetime warranty from Sony, you will be disappointed...

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty Options?

I think Microsoft's extended warranty is about £50, but due to the weakness of the pound it could have gone up

Game/Station is as follows

Extra Year (2 years total)

£100-£150 = £ 19.99
£150-£200 = £ 22.99
£200+ = £ 24.99

Extra Year on top (3 years total)

Extra £10
