Xbox 360 2months old buzzing motor sounding noise advice

Hi,

I bought a Xbox 360 Elite back in November and have installed all my games on the hard drive, everything has been running perfectly until yesturday.

I turned my 360 on and was greated with a fairly loud buzzing/humming that can be heard over the usual whir of the console.

The noise is coming from the front right but does not effect the games as they all play, it sounds like a motor or something because as I turn it off it sounds like a rotor noise slowing down.

The strange thing was I unplugged the console yesturday and took the faceplate off whilst making sure all the connections were ok then put it back on and the sound dissapeared but on turn on this morning the noise was back.

I got the console In HMV and its the 2nd one I've had from them as the first had a whistling power supply and RROD.

What should I do, dont really want a refurb am I entitled to a replacement in the shop as last time was a nightmare I was in there 2hrs while they tested it upstairs for a 2day old console!!!.

Thanks guys

I know you said you checked the connections and this might sound stupid but have you got the power cord firmly plugged in? I took my 360 over to a mates one evening, plugged it in and was greeted by a rather nasty buzzing noise, expected the worst, so i checked everything, took out the power cable, plugged it back in properly and voilą, no noise.

I'm 90% sure its not this but its worth a check anyway, failing that i'd take it back and kick up a fuss, demand a new one and then get them to unbox it there and then and test it for you? Would be worth it for them, as well as yourself

Sounds like one of the cooling fans may have a fault, just take it back to another HMV store and kick up a fuss.

My Elite has been making a loud whirring lately (different from the standard whirr), I think it is the DVD-ROM dying because it only happens with a game in the tray.

Might be the same for you.

It didnt happen yesturday when I sorted the connections out again before using the console, could it be a temperature thing like a car from a cold start ?.

I dont think its the DVD drive as the noise when it happens starts as soon as the power is initiated with no disk inside.

Thanks for the replys if the problem continues I will make a trip to HMV the only thing I am worried about is as I say the problem is intermittant woudnt I be better off waiting till it actually dies because If I go in there and they find nothing wrong a replacement wont be issued fingers crossed for a RROD.
