HD-DVD audio connection

Question HD-DVD audio connection
Hi all,

I've just purchases a sony 820 receiver for 5.1 surround sound and want to set up my 360(old one without hdmi) to it,
I currently have the 360 and hd dvd player connected to the tv via vga cable.

Being a bit of thicko with audio set ups what would be the best way to get this connected?

Would i have to use component now?

Either vga or component for video and optical for 5.1.

So i would leave the vga connected to the tv and send the optical to the receiver?
