Xbox 360 Arcade Vs playstation 2???

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm not a gamer, but am thinking of changing our playstation 2 for an xbox 360 arcade. Please could someone give a quick overview on what the differences would be?

I know we won't be able to use the same games etc, but we've got a HDTV with HDMI and am wondering what the implications of that is...plus we watch a fair few things from BBC iplayer...could these be somehow uploaded onto the 360 and watched on the TV??? This is all new to me....I'll keep with my DSlite!!! But I'm sure the three boys will enjoy it (and that includes DH)

Please don't be too technical as it just goes straight over my head...I can just about cope with High Definition lol....

Re: Xbox 360 Arcade Vs playstation 2???

In a nut shell the PS2 was the least powerful of the three consoles last generation.

Hardly any of the games were available in progressive scan.

The Xbox1 was the most powerful, the same games released at 576i for the PS2 were available for the Xbox1 at 720p.

To get back onto the 360, the 360 really is on a par with the PS3 in terms of gaming abilities.

It completely dwarfs the abilities of the Ps2. The game graphics for one completely outclass that of the PS2, they are also all in hidef.

If you have a hidef television you will never be able to go back to the Ps2 after playing the Xbox360 for a short while.

Furthermore any good third party game for the PS2 has come out in an improved version in hidef for the Xbox 360 now.

The biggie for the Ps2, Resident Evil 5, comes out on the 360 in March.

You may need the hard drive depending on what you intend to do, but if you buy the arcade Microsoft has an offer, or at least did, where you can get 3 months of live and a 20GB hard drive all for £20.

Overall I would say to get the Xbox360 Arcade.

The graphics on the 360 will blow you away after using a PS2.

I've got my 360 with a 26" HD-ready TV and the graphics are as good (if not better) as the ones in the arcades you used to go in as a kid.

With the Xbox, you also get Xbox Live. It's not free (I think I paid about £35 for a 12-month gold membership) but you can play with people around the world and download games from Xbox Live Arcade.
