Missing 8GB

Just got the kids Xbox360 in the post today. In the interests of being a good dad I had to take it out of the box and test it as I don't want any sad faces come xmas day.

I was intrigued that the hard drive although 60GB has only about 52GB available. I've done a few searches and see this appears to be the norm. What exactly does it use these missing GBs for as the arcade version doesn't have a hard drive?

Thanks

Mike

Re: Missing 8GB

as with all hdd's the number you buy is never the number you see.

500gb is about 465gb after formatting, dont forget that in that 8gb is the xbox system etc

Very impressive parenting its exactly the approach I am planning to take when my two are old enough that I can pretend I am buying consoles or them!

Thanks guys

I'm just glad 20GB wasn't an option as I would have felt royally ripped off

Re: Missing 8GB

Microsoft reserve that missing part of the drive for other things, game updates etc.
