xbox 360 wireless network adapter and NAT settings. HELP!

Hi Guys,

Just new to the forums so bare with me . I am a massive fan of the xbox live gaming. However my NAT settings are sometimes stopping me from joining certain games as im sure a few of you have had this problem in the past.

At the moment i am running the ethernet cable through my laptop which is conneted wirelessly via the BT home hub in the study downstairs. I get a prety decent connection, however i never get an open NAT setting. Only strict!

Has anyone got a solution to this (bar drilling holes through my walls to connect the the xbox to the home hub directly) because its starting to drive me round the bend :S.
Also will buying a xbox 360 Wireless network adapter solve all my problems and finally give me that open NAT setting!?

Thanks :D

Chris

This is the best site for help with such issues. Even if you get the official wireless adapter you may still get moderate or strict NAT. It all depends on your router.

Unhappy Re: xbox 360 wireless network adapter and NAT settings. HELP!

I am currently using the latest BT Home Hub. If i connect my xbox to this i have no problems at all, the NAT settings will be open but it is a hassle either the hub around OR my TV and xbox!
Is there anything i can change with my laptop to gain this open NAT setting at all or is it just hopeless?

I have the exact same set up and dilema as you! Currently i connect my xbox ethernet cable to my wirelss laptop and have a created a network bridge. I'm getting fed up plugging xbox to laptop all the time and yes £50 is a rip off!

I am now going to go and try to plug in a circa £10 wireless usb adaptor from Ebay/Amazon to see if i can get that to work!

Re: xbox 360 wireless network adapter and NAT settings. HELP!

If you use the wireless adapter you could assign a static IP to your 360 and place that in the DMZ zone so it won't be behind the routers inbuilt hardware firewall.

Re: xbox 360 wireless network adapter and NAT settings. HELP!

Zoom AP+4 Access Point Router with inbuilt GamePoint! Gaming Adapter - Ebuyer

Something along those lines.

It connects to your existing wireless network and then provides network access through 4 LAN ports.

Easy enough to set up too.

More useful and cheaper than the M$ adaptor.

Re: xbox 360 wireless network adapter and NAT settings. HELP!

Yeah NAT problems can be remedied by either turning on UPnP on your router, DMZ or portforwarding. This site has more info on how to connect wirelessly to xbox live and NAT settings:

Re: xbox 360 wireless network adapter and NAT settings. HELP!

If you have a bt home hub 2.0 then you need to disable the hubs firewall you can do this by going to the hubs website you can get there by typing the ip adress into a web browser.
