Sending 360 for repair. Do you take the faceplate off?

Ok, I've just had the 1 flashing red light on my 360 in the bottom right corner (E74) just as I'm about to finish COD WaW on veteran and I'm not too happy about it's failings either.

I've already arranged a return for it to be repaired but I need to know something. Do you take the faceplate off it before you ship, I'm talking about the one you get with the 360 Elite, not one I've purchased. Thanks in advance.

Suppose this is preference, i left mine on but if want to take it off. Wont hurt.
However i didn't actually think about that at the time.lol May as well just take it off then. But really makes no difference.
Take the HDD off tho, but u knew that.

Did you tell them it was one red light?

And yes, just send the bare console.

So it wouldn't be a problem then? If they send me an xbox back that isn't the one I originally sent, will it have a faceplate on or not.

So all I need to do is send the console in a box with a return address and the Service Request number wrote on the outside of it and wait for UPS to collect it. Is that all I need to do?

Yes in the box where you put details of the fault etc.. It's still in warranty because I got it in April 08.

no you do not need to take the faceplate off if it is a standard one. The black faceplate is tandart to the elite. dont worry you wont get a black 360 back with a white faceplate

Can't believe you have to pay shipping, surely MS should cover this. It's asking me where the package is going but MS ain't even supplied an address.

I'm thinking it may be easier buying a new Elite and selling the new HDD and controller etc..

Re: Sending 360 for repair. Do you take the faceplate off?

If you send it with the faceplate, don't expect to get the same one back.

The first time I sent my Premium Launch model off, it came back with a faceplate without the spring loaded USB panel.

The second time I sent my Premium Launch model off, I removed the faceplate, and when it came back I had a letter saying it had been tampered with and refused repair .... (complained loads) ... sent off again, came back all repaired (took +20 days to get sort inc. repair) They claimed I had damaged the console when removing the faceplate.

So it may pay for me to send it with the faceplate then cause I don't want any tampering accusations, plus I'm not really bothered as long as it's got one that isn't damaged or white in colour.

So far I have only received an email from MS stating packing info and that there are 3 different options about shipping. Surely they have got to send me a further email stating a shipping address etc..

When you phoned/ used the interenet to arrange for your Xbox to be sent to MS did they not send you an electronic pre-paid delivery label or say they would send you one through the post?

When my Xbox got the 1 red light I phoned them to arrange collection and they sent the delivery label to my email and all I did was package my Xbox and arrange a collection with UPS (I didn't pay for it)

Yes they sent me an electronic pre-paid label via email (eventually) that's why I was a bit confused and thought I had to pay/arrange it myself, it's all sorted out now anyway. I have just got to pack it up and call UPS.

In the meantime I have just bought another Elite for £210 from LX Direct with the intention of selling the new HDD (around £70 - 80) to recoup a bit of money and when my other Elite is fixed I'll just sell it with all the leads, controller etc.. as refurbished.

How much am I likely to get for a repaired Elite minus the Hard Drive, £80 - £100 ?

Would it not be easier to wait and sell your repaired elite WITH the hard drive?

Yeah I could do that I suppose, may even get a bit more for it that way. Should get around the 150 mark.
