Can extra internal fans be used post RROD to cure it?

My three years of RROD cover is coming to end (it is three years or is it permanent) and im musing wether to buy a new one and sell the old, pay the repair fees or mod the refurb and any way with something such as this XBOX 360 CORE XCM FAN BLUE LIGHT HIGH SPEED AVOID RROD on eBay, also, Xbox 360, Accessories, Video Games (end time 19-Dec-08 20:49:35 GMT) can it be used post RROD to cool it down or does it have to be done before.

As far as I'm aware, the RRoD fault is something to do with the motherboard flexing under intense heat which causes one of the solder joints around the grafix chip to actually break, or somehting like that anyway. So, no amount of cooling, post RRoD will fix that.

Cooling is the answer to keeping it running, after you have corrected what has caused your 3 red lights.

If you fix it correctly, addressing the heating and design issues, in theory it will last longer than an off the shelf Microsoft one.

My US launch model has been running daily for over a year now. The temperature recorded out of the back is much lower than my secondary machine, which i have left fairly standard.

Cool, cool, cool is the answer, after a proper fix.

If you are out of warranty, the first thing i would do is open it up, remove the lid of the metal cage, the rear grills, and do the fan shroud mod.

All of these will keep it running cooler than a standard one, and it will last you a good long while.

Also a factor to a lot of red light errors, is once you power off, the 360 has a lot of residual heat sitting in it, that should really be making it's way out. MS should have designed it so the fans stay on for a good while afterwards. However, if you have a play and charge kit, plug it in towards the end of your session, power off from the consoles power button, and you will notice the fans stay on. Have a feel back there after 2 minutes, and the air coming out should be cool.

The 360 can be reliable, with a bit of know how.

Ha! Sorry, didn't realise you meant it had been fixed already. I took it that it had RRoD right now and you were wanting to fix it yourself using this meathod. oops!

Hi Nick, I noticed my Xbox used to do this but since I got my RRoD sorted a few months back it doesn't anymore?

Any ideas why that would be?

Maybe 3 or 4 that i have fixed have done it too, seems to me to be yet another quirk of the 360. None of them ran any hotter than they should either, so can't really explain it.
