Hard Drive Upgrade?

I have the original Xbox 360 with the now very small hard drive of only 20gb, its almost full so I need to upgrade. Do I replace with a 120gb hard drive for about 90 pounds or do I trade it in for an elite if so how much more would this cost me?

Re: Hard Drive Upgrade?

would be cheaper to just upgrade the hard drive, you can get on on play for £99.

Re: Hard Drive Upgrade?

I had the same issue when the NXE came out and was measuring up either trading in my 20Gb Xbox for an Elite, or just buying the 120Gb upgrade HDD, in the end I decided to buy the 120Gb upgrade from Argos for £89.99 as I don't believe theres any point in upgrading to Elite when you can just buy the HDD cheaper.

Re: Hard Drive Upgrade?

Big thread about this already in main page.

I and others have got the 120GB HD for 69.99 in Blockbuster.

Was also going for 59.99 in Comet.

If you pay 100 quid for this, you want your head looked at.

I'd be tempted to upgrade to an elite if you don't have an HDMI xbox - I'm regretting not doing that.

There are a few deals on a 60 GB drive now. Might be a better option for you.

Re: Hard Drive Upgrade?

i had this problem 2 weeks ago. i have the old premium with 20gig hard drive. i traded it all in plus my games into game station. They offer 85 pounds for the console on its own. They were offering me £67 for my games but i then went to hmv, who offered 127 for the same games. I then took the receipt to gamestation who then price matched to give me 137 for the games. I traded in my console, games and extra wireless controller plus a play and charge kit and got £242 in total with whcih i bought myself a shiny new elite. the larger drive is really useful for installing games. Iv noticed that you can also get a 60gb starter kit now

Re: Hard Drive Upgrade?

Just went to Currys to see what they were selling it for and they don't even stock it, so I thought screw it I'll just buy it for £89 from Play.com, and it's out of stock.

I've just ordered a 120GB one from a seller on eBay, including postage it's costing me £79.98, which is about the cheapest I could find. I just hope it works.

Re: Hard Drive Upgrade?

Finally I got my 120GB Hard Drive today, and it's transfered all funkily.

Got well over 80GB space free now, every new game I get now will run quietly and quickly.

Re: Hard Drive Upgrade?

Just for others reading this thread and considering their options.

If you buy the 120GB HDD upgrade then when you've done the transfer from your old 20GB you will then have a transfer cable and HDD you can sell on to recoup some expense. If you manage to pickup a HDD for £80 then expect to get £30-40 back from selling the migration cable and HDD.

I don't think you can use a used 20GB HDD...
Migration cable wouldn't fetch any more than £5, I must admit I'm a little at a loss of what to do with either of these things now but peice of mind about the ammount of space I have on my 360 is about worth it.

Just thinking about it, who want's to buy a 20GB HDD now after the dashboard upgrade? I can't think why anyone would want to buy one before really.

The migration cable will fetch £15-25 easily on ebay. The 20GB HDD can be used again its just blank after the transfer. On the subject of who would want to buy a HDD, there are a lot of core/arcade users out there who would not want to goto the expense of paying out for the 60/120GB HDD's. I think you would do well to get £10-20 but every penny helps.

See what this one goes for (migration kit, should give a better idea):

Really alright then, I've had a little look on ebay, I supose you could get around £30 if you can be bothered to let them go.

Not checked Crackdown but Halo 3 is confirmed to run quicker off disc than HDD. I suspect that like Halo 2 which if ran from HDD on a modded original xbox the loading sections were longer as it took longer to read and cache onto the same device.

Ah right well as for the quicker bit I mean only by a couple of seconds if that.

The fact that all the gamesI install will be nice and quiet now is good.

Re: Hard Drive Upgrade?

It's worth keeping an eye on ebay and the trading forums here. I picked up a used 120GB in good condition on ebay for £50 a few days ago! I know that was pretty lucky but I just kept checking out the BIN sales each day and sorted the search results by newly listed.

The going rate for a used 120GB seems to be £60-£70 at the moment.

Do you still have the cable? If yes, what about the following?

I'll give you £7 (£5 for you + £2 to cover RMRD) for the cable. Once I've used it, I'll then donate it to the scheme running on the forum, details of which can be found here.

I need to go from 20GB > 120GB.

Let me know if you're happy to do this.

I only got 6.50 for my cable on ebay, done!!!

I've not got much feedback to be fair, but was expecting 20 at least.

Still, got 25 quid for my 20gb drive.

And I've no doubt that someone will pay that for it, even though the cables are provided free of charge by MS

That's eBay for you! A great way for the 'greedy' to service the 'stupid'.
