Machine RROD - Online Stats and new machine

Hi All,

My machine got the RROD last night

Anyhow Ive arranged for it to go back to MS for repair

However Im thinking of buying a new machine now

I can get a 60gb bundle from gamestation for 199, sell the games for £60 which takes it down to £140

Once fixed CEX will give me £135 cash for the HALO 3 Console Ive got

so I get a new machine, bigger hard drive and 12 months warranty for a fiver

Anyhow - If i were to do that and go online with cod 5 would I have to start from level 1 again as I cant get my gamesaves off the old hard drive. Do they keep your online progress online at all?

Re: Machine RROD - Online Stats and new machine

It depends on the game - some like COD4 use your profile to save your stats (Think GOW2 also) others use a save on the HDD. So for COD4, as long as you can recover your profile you shouldnt lose anything.

Think COD5 does the same thing but I couldnt swear to it

An alternative would be to get a new machine now and use your existing HDD on it - then get hold of the transfer kit to swap everything to the bigger HDD. You dant have to send your HDD when sending it for repair. That way you wont lose anything other than the 45 mins or so it takes to do the transfer...

Re: Machine RROD - Online Stats and new machine

Moved to CoD forum, as it seems to be a CoD query at the heart of it.

No mate - it's a general "my 360 is fubar, how do I keep my saves" question - if it needs moved anywhere it should be hardware...

Re: Machine RROD - Online Stats and new machine

Is it possible to connect the old hard driver to the new machine

Copy the gamesaves to a usb memory stick

Then put the new hard drive back on, recover gamertag and copy gamesaves from the memory stick?

No you can't - it's an anti-gamesave trading measure, a lot of saves contain the ID of the console it was created on written into it so if you try to use it on another machine it'll just see it as corrupt. Your Profile ID is also written to it so no-one else can use it.

You can swap the HDD's about different consoles without problems now. If you really want to put the saves onto a card rather than use the Data Migration Kit, you'll have to fork out for the official memory unit.

To swap the data from one HDD to another, have a look for the AVF Transfer Kit Bike thread, add your name to the list and someone will send it to you for you to pass on when you're finished with it.
