harddrive problems

hi
i was always under the impression that you could use a usb card/stick/harddrive with the xbox 360 for music, pics, video etc.
i have used a 8.5 gig usb card with no problems, but recently bought a maxtor 750 gig external harddrive for backup and tried it with the 360 but the it cant see any files in fact it cant even see the external drive at all,i know pressing the x button changes possible inputs but it cant see it,am i missing something here.?

any help would be great

I believe 360s only read hard drives which are formatted using fat32 not ntfs, so that might be the problem.

i have a 80gb classic too...and music works fine off it...but it does take forever to load all 75gb of music on it! Never tried running videos of photos off it though. As classics at FAT32 not NTFS anyways.
An idea might be though to ensure disk usage is enabled on the ipod on itunes.

Post back and let me know.
