Is my video chip knackered?

Well it has finally happened.......I am now getting issues with my 2 year old 360. It seems that every now and again it drops a colour from the component signal. I only use component, don't have a vga cable as I don't have a port left on the tv.

It goes this nice pink colour the dash looks nice and well gears is all red.

Has anyone else had this issue ? I have already tried another cable and also checked the tv.

I can leave my box off for a bit and then it comes back to normal. I could also get a new box and cut the noise down even more. If I get an arcade and just stick my drive on it I won't be missing anything ? I do have a spare HDMI port but would also need an audio dongle

What do I do ?

Sorry to hear about your xbox, 2 years is a good life tho

If you tried another cable and its doing the same and your tv is fine, it will be your ANA/HANA chip

If you get an arcade and stick your harddrive on thats fine, u wont loose anything.

Re: Is my video chip knackered?

I had a similar issue when my GPU was dying shortly before my RRoD.

Like you mine lasted just over 2years, which seems like the maximum average life for the 360 GPU. Of course some people will probably get a 360 that will never RRoD.

It would work after I unplugged everything and left it for a bit. But that now seems to have not worked this time. I was going to trade it in but that now looks like I won't be able to do that.

It seems that all boxes will all die. I have various older consoles that still work, looks like we won't be going down memory lane with the 360 in a few years either.

I don't really have the money for a new box so I will have to leave it for a while.

Just looked and it was manufactured 17 / 10 / 2006

Re: Is my video chip knackered?

My box is back from the dead.

Maybe it will hold up until the new dash arrives

Keep on using it, playing games will make it RRoD, then MS will fix it for free. Not ideal, but atleast you get a free repair on the console.

Re: Is my video chip knackered?

Its evil head has risen from the dead. Today I lost green and blue and only had any red colours available. That was during fifa.

Should I trade the thing in ? Apart of me is saying no as the machine is on its last legs. What should I do ?

I could do with a nice new Elite
