E74 failure tracking thread

I've noticed lots of E74 failures in the past few days. I have suffered myself so I'm not a disinterested party! Maybe it's worth tracking these failures? (Maybe I've only noticed because I suffered it myself?)

[I once tried this before with some other 360 problem and got lots of "what's the point" responses.]

Well the point of this is: there seems to be a spate of similar failures, and warning each other about it might get someone to return a machine before it's too late. Mine died 2 weeks within the 12 month retail warranty. (Yes I know that 12-month timeframe, and statutory rights, are contentious.) Being a non-RROD issue, you're not covered by the Microsoft 3-year plan. Maybe that's more to the point.

So: if you've had a failure and have already mentioned it on another thread (or have one from now on) maybe it's worth noting:

360 type:
Date of purchase:
Machine age:
Retailer:
Retailer's reaction:
Recent game purchases:

Re: E74 failure tracking thread

Mate, there really is no reason for this thread. All errors are caused by heat, which lead to a multitude of error codes..

See here -

Xboxexperts.com Xbox 360 Repair/Modding - Errorcode Overview

Until they change the design, there is no point in logging anything, as they all go in the end.

They are all caused by a badly designed console, end of.

Re: E74 failure tracking thread

Might as well add mines to the list, failed last night with the E74 error. Called MS but failed to persuade them to repair it for free, so claimed it was a RRoD on the online returns form to try and get a free repair that way...

360 type: 20GB premium HDMI
Date of purchase: Nov 07
Machine age: 12.5 months
Retailer: Argos
Retailer's reaction: MS refused free repair for E74 - so I claimed it was RRoD
Recent game purchases: GoW2, GTAIV
