Argos Replacement cover?

I just came across an Argos leaflet from 2004, it covered products of up to £150 with a no-fuss product replacement, just wondering if this service is still offered, as I am interested in picking up an Xbox 360 arcade.

Cheers!

Re: Argos Replacement cover?

Curious question, If I bought an Arcade that has an RRP of £130.

But buy an offer of three bundled games included for £140 total overall (for example).

Would I buy this warranty

Buy 3 Year High Risk Replacement Product Cover £130 to £139.99. at Argos.co.uk

Or the above one covering £140.

Only the machine risks breaking down not the games.

I would like to know this too.

Is it a quick procedure, of just walk into the store with your broken machine and receipt, speak to the sales assistant/manager and walk out with a new machine.

Or do they need to mess around with sending it off to independent test companies to see if it is actually fixable and such. (as if its the latter you may as well just deal with Microsofts repair facility and wait three weeks but get it all done for free).

From the Argos website ...

  • Quick and easy claims process - just return to store with your receipt, item and claim form for a replacement.

Re: Argos Replacement cover?

Although I didn't have this extended warranty policy with Argos, please PLEASE note that when my 4 1/2 month old Elite died, I had to threaten them with legal action to get them to replace it.

My thread's in this section for all those who wish to read the full story from start to finish.

Also bear in mind that another forumite had an extended warranty with GAME, and they refused to replace for 3RROD (if memory serves). Again, there's a thread in this section describing his experience, too. So, not even an extended warranty may be enough to save you from the MS repair merry-go-round.

If it were me, I wouldn't touch Argos with a bargepole - and I do have some experience of this issue, after all!

Re: Argos Replacement cover?

Thanks for this, thought it would all be too good to be true.

I honest to god truly do not like Microsoft for the way this Xbox360 debacle has been handled.

Not wanting to start a console war in the Xbox section, but Sony have immense pride in their Ps3's that when there is a problem they go way out of their way to sort it out, and as fast as possible (I can personally vouch for this service too).

Microsoft just do everything they can to irritate the life out of you and make it as difficult and drawn out a process as possible (friends and relatives can vouch for that on my side, but not me personally, yet).

I still feel I shouldn't have to buy two of the same consoles, but felt the Jasper was worth the additional buy for assurances that it will be a cool/quiet none RROD prone runner.

I will be very annoyed if Jasper does not come out before Christmas and this Xenon (AKA Junk box) faults out on me around Christmas.

I was looking into a warranty situation to see if I was forced into buying a Falcon. Looks like Argos aren't it

Re: Argos Replacement cover?

After inquiring about the GAME cover, it clearly states that it is only covered against ACCIDENTAL damage.
I think if an independent repair-man can't fix my Xbox, I'm going to pick up an Xbox 360 arcade with this breakdown cover!

So to confirm if you get this and your Xbox360 gets the RROD, and when you are packing it away into the box you accidentally drop it and it smashes.

You get it replaced for a new one.

Yep, but I would rather not have to purposefully break an Xbox to get it replaced

Re: Argos Replacement cover?

If any of you have accidental damage cover for possessions in your home contents insurance, this might cover the rip-off policy that the likes of Game are trying to flog seperately.

Yes but you will lose your no claims, and your premiums will go up.

So in the long run, a very bad idea.

Argos' sounded good, if someone hadn't posted that they don't honor it, as you can get the £120-£129.99 one which is only £26.

Its worth it for 4 years warranty (as you get one extra years with the machine under law).

Re: Argos Replacement cover?

I decided to get my console fixed independently, as I don't like the idea of having a console hanging around that doesn't do anything...
