RROD question!!

Can somebody help me!??!

I was playing 'dead space' last night. And on a couple of occasions it froze on me! I didn't really think anything of it as this has happened on a couple of games in the past,so i just rebooted the console!
Then it happened for a third time and whilst rebooting 3 quadrants lit up red!!
After that i could still access the game (although it froze virtually straight away) and the dashboard. But the screen would then go black and nothing.Couldn't even turn off the console with the dpad!!

So this morning i phoned up the xbox helpline, and was asked to unplug and plug back in a few times. As the operator said she wanted to confirm that it was a hardware failure!
The red lights haven't appeared again and everything seems to be back up and running. The only thing that concerns me,is that i have read that once the RROD appears that is it!!
I have a funny feeling that it is an overheating problem!
Should i ring MS back and insist on a pick up and repair!!?!

Any advice would be appreciated!

It's definitely not the case that once you've seen the RRoD, that's it, I speak from experience. My launch console (bought in Dec 05) got the RRoD about 6 months after, along with some weird graphical errors for an hour or so. So I rebooted and it worked flawlessly for 18 months after that, when I sold it, and as far as I know it's still going.

Some will say it's only a matter of time, but I can counter that. The choice of whether to send when you know this is up to you. You get three years warranty for RRoD, so unless you're coming to the end of this period, I'd play on for as long as it works.

Re: RROD question!!

If it's still under the warranty period I would sent it back to Microsoft.

Re: RROD question!!

Thanks Munkey/Mark.

It's been ok so far today.(no freezes)
But just been back on the phone to MS and insisted it is collected for repair!
As another strange thing. From time to time it gives a message saying that disc is dirty and needs cleaning on a few discs! ( it scratched my colin mcrae 'Dirt' to bits!)

Just to be on the safe side!

This would happen when 'TR undieworld' is out this coming week!!

Re: RROD question!!

My 3rd box went belly up last night with the RROD. All things considering it had done well, this one had lasted almost 2 years. Despite turning it off and on again countless times during the course of the evening I was convinced it was gone and in need of a Microsoft holiday and some surgery.

I was a bit miffed but what with the state of the global economy, Arsenal losing 2-0 at home and my developing baldness it's important to keep things in perspective.

Anyway for 'research' purposes I thought I'd try the 'towel trick', wrapping said dead box like the baby Jesus in a lovely set of John Lewis egyptian cotton towels. Keeping a watchful eye on my bundle of joy for 30 minutes or so I unwrapped and left the box to cool.

After 10 minutes I turned it on again and miraculously it worked. Three hours later it still worked and this morning it's still working. Of course it may go belly up anytime soon as from what I understand this is only a very temporary 'fix'.

Anyone else had any experience of the towel resurrection technique?

Re: RROD question!!

Mine kept doing this to the point where it would crash 4 minutes into a game so I took it back to the shop (10 months old what a load of rubbish)
