The disc is unreadable

So my newish 360 does not want to play Gears 2. My first copy I tried would just return the "The Disc is unreadable" error message and boot back to the dashboard. Got the game replaced today, just tried it again, and it's the same error message. I've cleared my cache, but it still does it.

Strangely enough, my other games work fine...is it dying?

I'm not liking the sound the disc and drive makes when i'm playing gears 2. Keeps speeding up and slowing down a bit and when it going full speed it makes a sound like its out of balance. It does play fine though.

This has been happening to me with alot of games for about 10 months, and although it's irritating, most games play eventually and my xbox still works.

I've only loaded gears 2 once, but it took 3 attempts (with the white screen with Chinese writing appearing) to get it to play.

It's certainly not good and if your system is under warranty, take it back to where you bought it.

I have to say the game definetly puts alot of stress on the disc drive, before I installed it the disc was easily louder than any other game in my new 360, much louder! Though it sounds like some of u have disc drives on the way out. NXE is here "officialy" next week, so that will take some stress away from the disc drive, so blissful being able to play games without a jet engine in the room.

Where are you buying your games from. I've (so far) haven't had one unreadable unbalanced disk. I get mine from Game and Amazon only.

99% of the time its a dodgy disc drive, not dodgy discs.

I'm sure it's the disc in my case as i have tried it on 2 xbox's, a 3 week old one and one just back from microdoft with a new disc Drive

umm think there is a bi more to this.

I loaned a friends 360 while mine is away being repaired and i get exactly the same.

I felt uneasy playing the game the noise the 360 makes is very strange. Pop in cod4 and its fine.

It spins up then stops, spins up, stops and then weird things sometimes its ok other times its DRE.

My 2 week old Arcade is rediculously noisy with GoW2 like the disc is warped and has already given the disc unreadable. I'm sure the hardware is fine.

I've had a few problems with my GOW2 disk as well. I've had a couple unreadable errors. Also got a message saying that it wasn't a Xbox 360 compatible disk. A couple of times as well it has just frozen. Also once the picture went weird but a quick reboot of my 360 sorted that. I have no problems with my other disks. I'm getting it exchanged by Amazon. Hopefully it is just a faulty disk and not a DVD drive problem.

Highly factual.

There has been an example recently (NHL 09) where it gave out a disc unreadable message intermiitently. This has been recognised as a coding issue and an update has been issued over X-Box live.

GoW2 has a few bugs although I haven't experienced this particular one to be fair. Hope you get it sorted either way.

my brand new replacement from MS is now playing up with this disk. This disk also gave dre on a friends xbox, some am wondering was there a production issue for a few batches of disk.

Anyway, it usually hangs at the epic games splash screen, or if i pop the disk in at the dash get the screen in the photo. LOL looks like my 360 thinks its a ps3 or something

At the dash its reported as a DVD not a game, weird.

Anyway finally managed after about 4 attempts to get it installed to the HD, thank you NXE

That's one of the messages I was getting. My replacement disk has been fine so far.
