Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

I brought a hddvd add on for my 360 today from cex, it was boxed all leads, however no remote, and cost me £30 well it traded some games in.
However, couple of my mates got them from the same shop at the same price and got a remote included in theirs...so tbh i was a bit annoyed so i returned to the shop and they just said 'second hand shop, how it comes in it goes out' now i understand that that makes sense.
However how can they justify selling a piece of hardware with an accessory at the same price with it missing?
Would you buy a console but not the controller? I dont think so!
Just wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of thing?

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

That's not on, take it back and tell them where to go.

I bought a brand new hd dvd player and 2 films...and like you say, with a remote, for £24.99 from gamestation.

Films were £8 each then.

So paid under £15 for the player with the remote.

Btw...I keep seeing people use the term "Brought" and not "Bought"

Bring it here.....He brought it here....He brought it round my house last night.

Buy the player at the store....He bought the player at the store....He bought the player for a good price.

Unless I'm wrong, which you know what, 99% of the time I am

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

Got mine about 3 months back mate, May time...Maybe 4 months then, hard to remember, bought it and loads of films and only used it twice so far lol...was just a bargain though

If I was you, I'd take it back because I'd be annoyed that I should have got something when I didn't, unless your not too bothered and would rather keep it.

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

Unless you can pick the player up from somewhere else with the remote I wouldn't let it bother you. It works just as well with the Xbox controller, just another remote to clutter the table.

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

Did it come in the original box ?.

If it did and there wasnt any indication that the remote was not included, then you should have rights to return it saying that it is not fit for purpose.

Having said that, I bought mine new back in Dec 06 and I have never even picked up the remote.

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

^^^

Why am I not surprised it's CeX? Bunch of muppets talking out of their ass; I bet you they checked the contents when it was bought in and either a) discounted the value due to a missing control or b) had it out of there.

It's not complete, 2nd-hand or not is totally irrelevant unless they specified to you at the time that a component is missing. Now, whether you can be bothered to pursue this is another issue ...

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

I would take it back and ask for your money.
The HD Player comes with the remote, if its not in the box then you have not got the full package.
And the remote is very useful, i use it all the time for my HD add on and playing SD dvd's and music & movies from my Hard drive. Alot easier to use than the controller and you dont have to keep turning the controller on.

If i was you i would get my money back and then try and purchase the full package from another retailer or try the classifieds on this site. Alot of people have sold the HD add on with remote for around £30-£40

I took it back but like i said they gave me crap that they are a second hand store etc etc.
Ill have your remote give you a few £ for it for postage etc

Deftones82 - Problem is trying to get one from anywhere, and considering i traded it in it didnt even really cost £30 therefore cheaper then even on here.

kismet110 - They didnt discount it i asked, however as they take the remotes seperately they probably took it out to sell seperately! But ive been in there once, i might try and get hold of customer services department...but doubt ill get far there either!

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

Have a look at this link :-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/x-ray/x_g...law/12-1.shtml

Specifically this part :-

The Sale of Goods Act

If you buy goods from a trader, The Sale of Goods Act says they must be:
of satisfactory quality - which means the product you buy should be reasonably reliable.
fit for purpose - which means it should perform the function you bought it to do.
as described - means it should be exactly what the trader told you it was.
If something you buy doesn't meet these standards, and you return it to the trader quickly, you're entitled to a refund, replacement or repair.

The Sale of Goods Act holds true for second-hand goods as well, but takes into account that the quality should simply be what you could reasonably expect from that product, given its age and how much it has been used.

If the goods are less than six months old, it's up to the seller to prove they weren't faulty when you bought them. After six months, it's up to you. Of course, this assumes that the goods were expected to last six months.

I would make a phonecall to the manager of the local store and insist on them sorting it, by sending you a remote, which is afterall part of the package that you paid for.

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

Have a similar problem as well bought a HD-DVD add-on from Birmingham new street Gamestation on Saturday for £24.99, got it home and no remote.
Wasn't advised at time of purchase that it didn't include remote, went in today to be given some BS that only the initial add-on's had remote. Is that true?
Called several other branches of Gamestation in the West Midlands to be told at £24.99 even Pre-owned they should have had remote.
Back off down there tomorrow.

NO if you look on the box itself it says contents: HD DVD add on, Remote, then lists leads etc. and on the barcode on mine it reads ' HD DVD add on and media remote'

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

Well i emailed there customer support, received an email back telling me to go into my local store and ask for james to sort this problem out.
So i went down there yesterday and asked to speak to him, a girl went to get him, but he didnt want to see me!
Surprise surprise!
And the girl asked "you had a faulty remote or something for the hd drive, yeah?"
So i replied "well actually the problem was the lack of one"
She said ok, and walked off, so i stood there to see what she was doing as she just walked off abrubtly, so im starting to get annoyed again...the manager doesnt want to deal with me, and now the worker has run off!

She comes back remote in hand, didnt ask to see the unit of a receipt (especially as i didnt have anything on me!) and she hands me the remote and says on behalf of James were very sorry here you go.

Thank you very much!

Goes to show as long as you try and get...or at least in this case!

Thank you everyone, i now hope anyone else who has suffered the same problem, whether it be now or at a later date, will be able to reflect on this story and save yourself from rip offs!

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

Glad to hear you got it resolved to your satisfaction.

As you say, stand your ground especially when you know legislation backs you up.

Sadly it reinforces for me, the reason I don't deal with certain retailers, they don't even have the courtesy to apologise in person when they have cocked up or given you duff info.

"apology on behalf of James" indeed, talk about him needing some lessons in customer etiquette.

Perhaps your last dealings with CEX on this should be to phone up the same customer support person and explain that although the original issue has been resolved, it has brought to light that their in store customer service is less than you had anticipated/expected especially in view of the fact you had to travel there again to get what was rightfully yours, only to have the staff member they instructed to deal with it, essentially send someone else out to offer HIS apology.

Or you could just hit them where it hurts (in the wallet obviously)

Re: Brought HD-DVD Addon Today-Remote Question

Went to gamestation to confront them about lack of remote, they wouldn't give in and provide a remote. But found a way round it. Went CEX brought a HD-DVD addon with remote, took it out the box and took addon to gamestation and got a refund.
