360 HD Drive any good?

I have the opportunity to get hold of one of these for £20.

I have yet to venture into HD on my new TV and thought this may be a cheap way to start....but is it any good?

All reviews I have read have said it gives a very poor picture. What I don't want to do is try this and have it put me off HD for ever!

Re: 360 HD Drive any good?

All the reviews I have read say it gives very good results! I am very happy with the picture quality through my projector. For £20 its a bargain but buy a few discs that you like now, cos when they're gone, they're gone.

Re: 360 HD Drive any good?

Couldn't wait for feedback and as they are so cheap so went out and bought one this morning!

Went for the deal at Gamestation where you get the HD drive, remote and choice of 2 HD DVD's all for £25....to good to miss.

First impressions are very good. Picture quality is really good, very clear and with good colours (on my 4280XD) although I can detect the slightest of judders (I believe this lacks 24fps) but for the price I am certainly not going to complain. Another nice surprise was that whilst the 360 noise is apparent it's no where as noisy as when spinning a games disc and as everyone said with the surround sound on you can't even hear it.

Guess most people on this forum already own one of these but if, like me earlier, you are wondering if they are any good then I would definately say go get one, if you can get a good deal.

It might seem like a bargain now... but it quickly adds up. I've already spent almost £200 on HD-DVD's since I made the jump

Although that near £190 spent has got me the Xbox HD-DVD player, 22 films and 3 box sets... there's still plenty of bargains around, but I've got the bug like Dude a llama and I'm snapping them all up now fearing they'll disappear.

It's certainly worth hunting through the classifieds on here too, although for some reason quite a few seem to be sold for more than they can be had brand new from places online? There's still a few bargains to be had on the more widespread titles though so happy hunting

Re: 360 HD Drive any good?

I bought one last year for £99 with 7 disks and thought that was a bargain at the time. I also bought one a few weeks ago in Gamestation for £25 with 2 disk which I use attached to my HD media streamer to play unprotected dvd's and HD MKV's. I have about 60 HD DVD's at the moment with quite a few more on the way as they are so cheap. Amazon had an offer on a few days ago selling certain titles between £4.99 and £6.49, buy one get one free, so I ordered 8 titles and it cost just over £27.

You can say that again! After seeing how good this looks I have already been trawling for more bargains so looks like £25 is just the start

Just broken the £200 mark I've only had the thing a month...

One watch out though for any potential buyers is that the 360 noise can sometimes get annoying. I was watching Blade Runner last night after ny g/f had gone to bed, so had to keep the volume down & I could definitely hear the 360 in the background. It's normally fine when the volume is at a reasonable level, but for low volume watching it's not perfect.

For the price they're going for though... you can't really grumble
