HD DVD Player won't read Chuck & Larry

Hi there

Anyone had any experience or can shed any light on this problem.

I have Elite connected to HD DVD player and via component.

HD DVD player has now stopped playing Chuck and Larry.

The disc is mint so no problems there.

The player seems to be reading but then just get black screen and nothing else doesn't make it to the disc menu. The player plays other discs and had previously played this one but now won't and I'm stumped.

Have tried going to route menu etc. when the screen is black but nothing happens.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Lee

Re: HD DVD Player won't read Chuck & Larry

Hi and sorry for the hijack. I can't get my player to play Bourne Ultimatum, it popped up and asked if I would accept a cookie, I said yes and then it justs hangs on the loading screen and I cannot do anything apart from go into the DVD controls. I had the same issue with Evan Almighty last night but I quickly tried it this morning and it worked fine.

Any suggestions please?

Are you connected to Xbox live mate? If not, there was an update to the HD-DVD software to fix this. My Bourne Ultimatum hung on that loading screen, and after they did a prompt update it sorted it.

If you can connect your 360 to the net, it'll automatically download the update when you put a disc in.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply. the only message I recieved was for me to accept a Cookie which I did. I noticed that the problem only occurred with net enabled discs so I though there must be an update of some description kicking around.
My 360 is net connected already so any idea how I force this update?

Re: HD DVD Player won't read Chuck & Larry

I think if you look in your Hard Drive you can see what updates your 360 has and the HD Player. If its there you could maybe delete it and try and re-install it.
Or try inserting the setup disk and see if that prompts the update from Live.

When i did mine i insterted the setup disk a few times and ran through the installation and i think on the 3rd time it prompted me for the update from live.

Re: HD DVD Player won't read Chuck & Larry

As usual this forum never lets you down. Will give it a go tonight.
Found by going through Google that a lot of Universal Combo discs have issues with the HD-DVD and that an update sorts most of them out.
Thanks for everyones help.

Re: HD DVD Player won't read Chuck & Larry

fixed it, downloaded the december 07 hd dvd firmware update and burned it to CD
play in in the console and it will install and everything now works fine
its a shame that the new hd dvd drives are comming with old firmware on the disk

An update after playing around with it last night.

Good news and bad news:

Good news; Finally got Bourne Ultimatum to play.
Bad news: Had to disable the web connection on the 360 to make it play. As soon as I enabled web it went to the loading/cancel screen and stopped there.

Tried all of my disks now (only have 7 but another 7 on the way!) all seem to work:
American Gangster stayed on the loading/cancel screen for about 3 minutes then started OK. (Did not try to re-play with Web Enabled)
Transformers went to an update screen and after about 3 minutes that started OK. (Did not try to re-play it with Web Enabled)

But whenever I enabled web access with Bourne it stopped working,so I downloaded and burnt to disc the Dec 07 update and that did not seem to make a difference at all. I even cleared all cookies just in case, again no better.

It is definitely down to the web enabled part of it, not that I am likely to ever use it but it annoys me now that a feature is there that I cannot use.

Any ideas/suggestions?
