HD-DVD Drive on the blink after 360 crash?

Hi all

Hoping someone with experience can shed some light. I was in the middle of an (admittedly very long) GTA IV session when suddenly the 360 crashed. Thankfully only 2 red rings so powered down then back up and all OK (possibly just overheated).

However, the HD-DVD Drive is now not 'visible' to the 360 (only one tray available in the DashBoard).

Powered it down then back on, disconnected then reconnected the USB cable then tried re-loading the initial Add-On Software (twice) but all I get when doing that is "Please connect your HD DVD Drive to the XBOX 360" and a constantly spinning timer.

Any ideas? I only bought it 4/5 months ago, part of me wants to take it back to PC World to get a replacement/refund (barcode part of the packaging was sent away for the free titles but I have a photocopy of the barcode and original receipt) but I'd rather it worked OK as I've bought a fair few titles in the recent fire sales.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: After leaving it all off for 5 minutes the Drive is now recognisable on the 360 but every HD DVD I try in there whirrs for a while then I get the error message "Unplayable Disc" but it plays SD DVD's OK?
