getting surround sound-what settings?

Hi,
My Optical Cable came from amazon today. I have plugged it into the 360 and my amp,but I still can't get surround sound. On the console settings.auto, I changed the auto to digital output, then dolby digital 5.1

What am I doing wrong?

Have you changed any assignment settings on your amp? I'd assume that you have to assign the optical input on the amp.

read your amp manual,it will explain there.
possibly,input select,etc..
