How to get optical out from arcade edition.

Hello can anyone help my brother has just got the arcade edition xbox and that does not come with an optical out cable, he is using hdmi so how can he get dolby digital out from the machine and i dont mean using hdmi for the dolby his amp dont do that. He has tried using the old component cable as well as using the hdmi but they dont fit to well in there together and i think it works funny together as when he turns the tv over off the hdmi channel the xbox restarts everytime. My elite come with a small optical to plug in that fits above the hdmi but i cant seem to find one anywhere.

You have two choices:

- Buy HDMI cable and audio dongle that allows you to use both HDMI and A/V at same time
- Mod the AV cable so both fit... I am sure you can google this.

thats the hdmi lead, and the audio dongle,as a pack:

and if using hdmi, really isnt a problem, you could always buy the component leads, they have the optical socket on them,so all thats needed,is an optical cable:
http://www.game.co.uk/Xbox360/Hardwa...t-HD-AV-Cable/

or you could always give him, your component leads that come with the 360,

I believe that this happens to other people as well. Not seen enough info on it to come to a solid conclusion as I don't know if it happens with every TV or just some. My guess is it's the HDCP handshaking everytime you change from HDMI.

Thanks guys, i cant believe that there is no company that makes a cheap audio dongle for the 360. Just to let people know what i did was took apart my component cable pulled all cables out and small pins but leaving the optical ones in and it works great but i still cant use it as they dont fit properly with the hdmi aswell so i will have to purchase the microsoft dongle.
Unless anyone knows how to modify a vga cable i have one of them.

you could just remove the casing.
it just unclips just like a scart lead, and leaves the internals untouched.
then just wrap it in electrical tape, and you have a cheap audio dongle that can be placed back in its casing again,if you ever need to use the component leads.
its the fat plastic casing that causes the problems, with it not fitting.

I can confirm this works, i was doing it until recently. However, the problem was if you turned the TV off or over to another channel the 360 resets when you go back to HDMI.

I bought the official dongle which solved this

Re: How to get optical out from arcade edition.

Another option which may be valid is that if your brother is using a HDMI connection to his TV, then his TV should (must be modern having HDMI) have some form of audio out on the back of it. Either RCA type audio or optical.

I know my Samsung does so that the audio that is fed to it via the HDMI is then able to be taken via optical cable (TOSLINK) and then fed to my surround amp.
