360 and samsung le40m87bdx best connection

Just got the above telly and a xbox 360 what is the best cable to use for the clearest/best pic? am i right in that there are 3 different cables? also im using the cable with the tv/hd tv switch 6outputs (5 plugged in) that comes with the xbox pack, i set the xbox to 1080p which is fine but it pops up with a message saying now displaying in 50hz mode, should there not be an option to change this to 60hz as some games need this?

cheers for any help!

I could be wrong but I think you need to plug in the yellow composite lead to change the console to output 60Hz

Flick the switch on the cables connector block (connected to the 360) to TV from HDTV and go to the blade on the far right of he screen (the one wih resolution settings). You will see an option to output at 60Hz...

Surely that means I'm right, if you select TV instead of HDTV wouldn't you be activating the composite rather than component output of the console?

Yeah it is in 60hz mode when i swith to tv but in hd mode it comes up with 'displaying in 50hz is this ok' and doesn't give me any other options, the games that say '60hz only' still play but i dont know if the picture would be better if it worked properly

Pedro, it might be worth having a look at this thread by Blackbolt360 for Samsung R87s. Not strictly the same as M87s, but it might give you some ideas for optimisation:

Do you have an HDMI socket on the 360, if it's new? That would be the best connection method. My Samsung 23" gave me that 60Hz message when I first powered up, but it hasn't affected anything. Got it running through the VGA cable - crystal clear

all you are getting there,is a message.
its asking simply does this display correctly..you answer yes,and it flicks back to what it was, which is 1080p@60hz.
what you have is fine.
you have it set to 60hz,on tv.
and you have it set to 1080p on hd.
the component lead you have,is fine..
if you wanted, you could always try vga, which would also display at 1920x1080(1080p),but i guess you wouldnt see much difference.

Re: 360 and samsung le40m87bdx best connection

Hi all

I have just bought an LE40M87 and I have my 360 (non hdmi) connected via component lead by Joytech, the problem I have is that when set to 1080p I get very bad "ghosting" on the any text displayed on screen such as the dashboard and in game text.

Anyone have ideas what this is ?

Probably the cable. Buy an official MS one and I'll put money on your ghosting disappearing

Re: 360 and samsung le40m87bdx best connection

Thanks mate

That's what I thought I would hear, the question now is whether to replace it with an official Component or VGA cable?

Obviously via VGA I can opt for 1:1 pixle mapping via Just Scan but does this provided a significant advantage of component?

My TV is coded PC which I beleive is of very recent build so I would hape that the issues with VGA that people have previously reported have been resolved by now?

I have the same TV and now use VGA as I prefer it. But it's a very individual thing so it may not be best for you.

Re: 360 and samsung le40m87bdx best connection

Well I have had this set since last week and only used it Saturday and Sunday but here are my observations:

Xbox360 via Component

Excellent, smooth and crisp no noticeable smearing

HD-DVD

Disc watched was Transformers and it was awesome, the only issue I would point out is that this set has issues with pulldown on NTSC when fed interlaced signal, I have the HD-E1 and there were noticeable jaggies and a bit of flicker which were not noticeable on my other set, Pioneer PDP-436XDE appparently if I was feeding it 1080p this would not be the case.

No motion niggles I could pick up on I might add.

I've not noticed anything when playing games and I've used both Component and VGA. I've had the TV since it was launched.

Desmo

I know this is a bit off topic but how happy are you with your SDTV settings? I can't seem to crack it, any help would be appreciated

My only SDTV source is using the internal freeview and I'm quite happy with mine. It's never going to match a decent CRT so I dropped my expectations a little but I'm still happy with it. I'll take a look at my settings tonight (time allowing) and will drop you a PM
