Is there any region locking inplace for the HDD?

Hi I got an arcade system a couple of days ago now and Im looking at the hard drive prices here and there, but I wondered is there anything from stopping me from just buying an american HDD on ebay or something and using that? I noticed the best prices on the UK ebay tend to come from Hong Kong so I see no problem.

The one's from Hong Kong might not be official MS HDD's, they might be homemade one's.
