Does the internal DVD Player in the 360 upscale to 1080p?

I read a review about the HD-DVD I am thinking of buying and I saw a review at the bottom stating that after an Xbox Live update it added support for DVD Upscalling as standard.

I am currently running in VGA mode which is limited to 720p sadly but still that's a lot better than 420p.

It upscales if using either VGA or HDMI. HDMI will definately do 1080p if your screen can do it

Sadly my VGA port can only do 720p HDMI can do 1080 but I don't have an Elite...

You don't need an Elite to get HDMI, all flavours of the 360 now have it. You would of course have to sell your existing 360 and replace, but if you ask me it may not be worth it unless your TV doesn't handle VGA well (the reason I upgraded). The upscaling isn't brilliant on the 360, most screens probably do as good a job if you ask me.

I dont know what tv you have but if its a native 1080p lcdtv then when you send the 720p signal to the tv the tv will then upscale it to its native 1080p resolution

Unless yout tv has a rubbish upscaler chip there is probably little difference to letting the 360 do it

It does upscale but not that well (about as well as my Samsung F71, which doesn't have the best scaler in the world). The PS3 upscales much better and is noticeable on my TV.

I have a Toshiba 37X3030DB which supports 1080p, are you saying then that the picture will be uspcalled to 1080p anyway? even if have set it to 720p in the XBOX Dashboard & my VGA port only goes up to 720p

Well, a TV with 1920x1080 pixels displays everything at that resolution if you think about it - every pixel displays something. So yes, your TV upscales everything that's not already 1920x1080 (assuming that is it's native resolution). What's important to think about is what's best at upscaling, because if you have a decent TV, the chances are it'll do a good job on it's own, but it varies from make to make.
