360 thinks it's connected via DVI...

Okay, I have a really weird issue with one of my 360's. I have an Elite and up until recently it was working perfectly via HDMI. I got a shot of a Sony tv from my brother in law and things have been weird since then.

My Elite now thinks it is connected via DVI when it's connected via HDMI, and because my tv (a Hannspree ) handles PC inputs awfully I get horrible tearing all the time. If I disable the automatic sensing thing (EDID?) it reverts to being HDMI but I get overscan with all of the default resolutions (720p, 1080i) :/

As I say, before I connected my Elite to this other tv everything worked fine, and my other Xbox (Halo 20GB from my bedroom) still works perfectly (ie, it senses that it's connected via HDMI automatically and let's me select Optimal Resolution, which selects 1360x768 and gets rid of my overscan with no tearing).

Anyone else had anything like this happen? I've reset my Elite's display settings by holding Y and RT at boot but that didn't help. Resetting everything via Initial Settings didn't help either, so for now my Elite has been banished to the bedroom

Cheers in advance for reading and any help you can give

Its odd the problem you are having as DVI and HDMI are the same except HDMI carries audio
also the 360 has no native DVI output you would have to use a HDMI - DVI lead/converter. Do you mean VGA?
Have you tried using component or another connection to see if the 360 will effectively reset the display settings due to a different connection?

Cheers for the reply mate

Nope, I don't mean VGA. When you go to display settings on your 360 it will show you which type of output you are using. My Elite says DVI+A and my Halo 20GB says HDMI+A even though they are using the same HDMI cable going into the same HDMI port in the same tv :/ I've never used a DVI converter for either 360 btw.

The reason I'm having problems is because my tv handles pc inputs awfully, and now that my Elite is basically outputting pc resolutions (eg I get the option of 640x800/1280x720/1600x1200/1920x1080 etc instead of Optimal Resolution/480p/720p/1080i/1080p) my tv can't handle it and I get horrible tearing. If I disable Display Discovery my Elite outputs HDMI+A and the tearing goes but I get overscan and lose fair bit of the picture.

I've tried plugging in my component and VGA cables to reset my 360 but no dice it's basically useless with my main tv now (and as you can imagine my better half is really happy at having a green 360 in the living room for now )

Anyone else got any ideas?

1920 x 1080 is 1080p so it should be fine with that if you normally set it to 1080p

Otherwise im sorry to say im out of ideas

I know that mate the problem is that the 360 is outputting 'DVI' which makes my tv think it's a pc and the picture stutters/tears like a mad thing.

It's as much my tv's fault for handling pc inputs awfully I suppose but I'm not forking out for a new telly because my Elite has lost the plot. Looks like my Halo 360 is here to stay for the foreseeable

Cheers again for trying to help btw, I've been looking around and can't find anyone else on the net with the same problem. Oh well!
