My current Elite is dying on me. Games seem to freeze up the box. Making loads of small lines appear on the screen. I have to turn the box off to get it back on. Haven't had the RROD yet! It plays the Zune and Sky Player films OK but just has problems with games.
It is over 2 years since I bought it.

If I was to get a new Elite from Play.com are they the ones with that new board or whatever everyone wanted in it a few months ago?

Jasper. New Elites should all be by now, but there's no way of telling if you order from Play until it arrives. I just ordered one from Amazon, which specifies "2009-2010 model", and people have commented under it that they've received a Jasper model when they've ordered it, so it seemed to me to be the best way of guaranteeing that I got a Jasper...

plus, £199.99 on Play, vs £189.99 with two retail games (decent ones too, trade-in-able if you don't need them)

That was the deal I was looking at. I could sell the harddrive, headset, Extra joypad and the games and come out pretty good at the end, I think.
