Moving to New Zealand

I recently bought an Xbox 360 -- I am moving to New Zealand early next year. I expect I will need to buy a new adapter or transformer for the voltage, but what I'm worried about a bit after talking to a friend of mine is the whole PAL / NTSC thing.

I thought that since HDMI / HD tv's were so new, they would have gotten away from having a different format like that. My friend thinks that you still need some kind of converter to use an Xbox 360 from the U.S. in a PAL country.

If I do need a converter (I'm not shipping my TV) -- any tips on where to find a good one for gaming?

Also -- I have heard that a lot of games now are not region encoded -- anyone here know anything about that?

Cheers
Kem

You will need region 2. But I am almost certain New Zealand is PAL, same as here. So you should be ok.

As for HDMI, it is universal, so HDMI is the way to go.

Of course, you may need a 2 pin converter if thats what they use.

Good luck over there mate, its a beautiful country!

clarification

I wasn't totally clear I think. I live in the U.S., and bought an Xbox 360 here. I'm wondering if I'll be able to use it on an HDTV in New Zealand without any issues. (or if I will have issues, the best approach to dealing with them.)

Agreed that New Zealand is a beautiful country, this will be my 2nd time living there. They have lots of beautiful girls there too (that's where I met my wife

HD Resolutions don't use TV Standards so a US 360 Will work on any HDTV with 480p,720p,1080i and 1080p resolutions.

Since the 360 has an external transformer you will most probably have to source the relevent power brick that New Zealand uses.

follow up

By the way -- anyone reading this post -- I'm now in New Zealand, and both my PS3 and my Xbox 360 work just fine on a random HD TV -- one plugged in via HDMI, the other through component -- no problems at all (and by the way, the PS3 which says it is just 120 V on the back, actually has a 110-220V power supply, and so plugs right in here without a transformer either (although I believe I will need a new adapter for the Xbox 360)
