Re: Advice,

In short, get a 360. Then you can play with me and the legendary Codehead! The 2 most awesome people on the planet!

Im sure someone will spend an hour listing up the differences but Ill just cut to the chase.

360 360 360

IMO Better Online Experience, Better Graphics (With the exception of a few PS3 exclusives), Better Controller, Better Games, Better DLC, New Models are not very loud at all, Better Looking.

I could go on!

Re: Advice,

I agree as well, I've got a PS3 and a 360 and I do all my gaming on the 360, just use the PS3 to watch Blu Rays. Main reason for this is probably down to the controllers. The 360 controllers are much, much better than the PS3 ones, particularly for first person shooters.

Differences are (from memory):

Arcade: Doesn't come with a hard drive. It does have a little bit of onboard memory these days for game saves, but you won't be able to download content from XBox Live and you won't be able to install games to the hard drive (sometimes speeds up load times, but more importantly saves wear and tear on the DVD drive and makes it quieter!). All the new arcades should be Falcon chipset (newest, should be more reliable as it generates less heat) and an HDMI out connection.

Premium: Pretty much the same as the core but instead of the onboard memory you get a 60Gb hard drive

Elite: Pretty much the same as the core (only black) but instead of the onboard memory you get a 120Gb hard drive

Why not pick one up second hand in Game if you are already convinced that you will sell it
To be on-line and play games with Xbox you will need:
Console+network adapter or Ethernet cable+xbox live subscription (payable monthly if you really are undecided).
Plus a game or two to go on-line with...
A few people on the forums have both (just mad about gaming!) but I guess you posted in this section as your mind is nearly made up.

Re: Advice,

Cheers guys.

So id need an adaptor to get it on line, i assume i can have a wireless connection?
How much is the live subscription?

Do you need either of these for a PS3?

Can a xbox or PS3 play HighDef DVDs or a HD file off the hard drive?

Re: Advice,

The PS3 has built in wireless and you don't have to pay to play online. The xbox does not have built in wireless, you either have to have it connected directly to the router, buy a wireless adaptor or connect it to a PC or Laptop that is online. You have to pay to play online.
Asking these questions in the Xbox section of the forum is going to get you fairly biased answers.
Xbox cannot play media off it's Hard Drive unless you paid and downloaded it from them.
PS3 can play any media off it's HD including stuff that you have downloaded yourself from the internet

Woah woah woah.

It plays media, you shouldnt word it like that.

It plays off disk, USB, it streams extremely well. Hell I can even plug in my DSLR and view pictures from it.

Re: Advice,

Thanks.

Will either play high def dvds? Or high def dvd files from another source?

I know its the xbox forum, but at the moment the ps3 looks more attractive as there is no fee to play on line and it has wifi built in.

PS3 wont play x264 from usb or HDD, it will play them if it is streamed from PC.Xbox is way better at streaming than the PS3, I have noticed the PS is choppy and a tad slow in looking into PC files.

I personally have all the consoles, the Wii has a 1 inch thick layer of dust on it (until new super mario comes out), the PS3 is great for media except sloppy streaming and I am on my second Xbox 360 (traded in 4 year old model for the spanking Super Elite model) and I love it.

Yes but when you get something for free...

Well what can I say. The PS3 isnt Wireless N compatible either, of which the 360 has an adaptor for.

As I said, a free service doesnt compare to a paid one.

I agree, Xbox service is the muts nuts, £40 per year for 'Gold' is well worth it.

If you don't tend to use the online gaming experience you can sign up to the 'Silver' package and it's free and you get 1 month 'Gold' (online gaming and VIP downloads a week earlier than Silver), you can download demos, use chat and all the other new stuff that has just been launched

MS are offering 20% off Gold subscription if you sign up before the 24th November (which is a shade over £31).

For most features both are similar, at the end of the day look at the exclusive games on both consoles and make your decision based on that. The 360 is superior for shooters, the PS3 has a little extra variety in it's exclusives. If you want to watch Blurays and game then the PS3 is a no brainer.

The 360 plays HD DVDs with the HD DVD drive addon. You can pick that up for peanuts now.

In fairness I have one and use it as much for playing normal DVD's as it's so much quieter than the 360 drive
