New Super Elite not Jasper?

Ok, Ive just dissected my Modern Warfare Elite.

This is what I found -

Now, Ive seen inside Japser consoles and they do not look like this. Took me by surprise. Also, stickered onto the motherboard is "Super Elite Motherboard".

Hmm strange. Ill try get a few better pics when I get my SLR to show how different the heatsinks are. The fans also seem a lot lighter and spin much more smoothly.

Could this be a new Chipset in testing?

Fourthly, (yeah a word I just made up), you are very brave in guinea pigging your machine so us potential owners/owners already, know what is inside.
I thought that it was going to be a pre Jasper, but you have mentioned the changes..

I am seriously stumped guys. I am going to get some better pics tomorrow so that we can draw up the differences.

Theres talk everywhere that they are the Jasper chipset, but I dont think they are!

Maybe they are Pre Valhalla chipsets?

Just speculation. Im a bit miffed tbh, the fans that I have bought to go in may not even fit now!

ALSO, I have trawled the net and I cannot for the life of me find any other pics of the inside of the new Super Elites. I think I am the 1st to post pictures...

So...why did you buy the MW2 LE case and not just a Super Elite if you are "amending" the case...

Bling is the "In thing", I have seen an ATX case you can put the 360 into, keeps it super cool, but is it really worth the effort?

I turn mine on, play it, then turn it off..

More interested in what is going on , on the screen.

Each to their own..

Yeah funky lighting and stuff!

Just noticed too, theres a new DVD drive in there.

Its a Lite-On drive.

Looking around, its a newer model to the Benq-Phillips one. Production Date 2 months ago!

No wonder its quieter than my old Jasper! I knew I wasnt going mental!

The reason I got MW2 Elite is because I got the Game free with it in the package. I already had the LE version of Forza 3 and I saw an opportunity to sell on the MW2 Case. I can imagine someone out there would Love it.

It not that for me, I like to take things apart.

It sounds weird but I have a better understanding of the 360 and how it works and breaks through seeing and tinkering about with its innards. Its an awesome piece of kit.

The parts I will put in it will not only make it a piece of artwork in my room that matches my room but it will be cooled better.

I also think that seeing ones insides and being educated about them helps you appreciate it more.

I have just spoken to some other guys and they think it is the Valhalla chipset, rumoured to be put into production next year!

Weird board, seem to be too many transistors for that to be a Jasper. That being said I don't know why they would put the old smaller heatsink back on if it didn't have the cooler GPU. Does the top part of the PSU socket have the gap in the middle denoting it's a Jasper?

These boards could of course just be a different run of boards to what we're used to seeing. It's not valhalla though as those boards will unify the GPU and CPU onto one chip.

We think... Its not certain.

Doing some research it seems to be the same as the old Xbox 360s.

Only slightly modified, its actually a bit bigger than the Japser heat sinks with the extra 3rd heat sink and the copper pipe.

I am assuming it is because they have learnt that the Jasper chip doesnt need cooling as much as the Falcon did, so theres no need for the 3rd Heatsink. it uses the same power as the jasper, just seems to be modified.

Not sure if I mentioned it but there is a sticker by the fan that says "Super Elite Motherboard"

So it is definitely different, the fan is lighter too and spins much more fluidly. Seems as if the plastic is of better quality.

Of course it varies, MS use different manufacturers but it's mostly the same specification.

It's a jasper, but with a step back in the heatsinks..either microsoft are certain its cured of the RRoD, or its a cost thing.
and the drive's are merely the same as the old liteons, but with newer firmware..

It's not Valhalla...these motherboards have been in 360's for months now..

Yeah from what I have found out, having the 3rd heatsink helps prevent the 3 Red Rings, but increases the chance of E74 error.

So the sensible thing to do, now that they dont produce as much heat is to get rid of the 3rd Heatsink.

Have you taken the heatsinks off too identify the chips?

Or are you not quite THAT brave!

I have a new project on the go too. Won't be completed for a while yet though as there is a fair bit of machining to do, as well as SMD testing and a bit more research!

Na Im not going to bother with that although it did cross my mind. Ive done a few RRoD fixes and the clamps are a bitch to get back on once theyre off.

If only I had an optical camera...

I do think this new heatsink design looks sexy though! The heatsink over the GPU doesnt seem to have changed much. It also looks like a different material or coated with a chalk :S

I am seriously cheesed. Fans didnt fit, dvd drive cover didnt fit and they sent me the wrong case! Badly made hardware. The fans didnt fit because of the case, and despite being the correct drive the screws wouldnt bite.

Im gunna put my old case back on...
