New Xbox making light circular scratches

I sold my old Xbox today and got a new Elite, it used to leave a thin circular scratch on the disk, and today I found out my new elite does this too. My mate says it happens to him too.

So is this just standard for Xbox? I'm a little confused

Hmmm...not sure tbh - can't say I've noticed anything peculiar.

Are you going to install your games to the HDD on your new Elite?

Re: New Xbox making light circular scratches

Mine has always made a slight circular scratch about 1cm in from the inner edge. 3 of the 4 consoles i have had have done this. Only one that didn't was my first one.

Never had a problem though so i'm not worrying

I've installed my games to HDD, I guess if it starts to affect gameplay I will return it, but seems to be workin perfectly atm.

Re: New Xbox making light circular scratches

I'm just curious, do you think I should return the Xbox and get a new one?. I only got it on Wednesday.
It hasn't affected the games but could it get worse over time?

Re: New Xbox making light circular scratches

All my disks have this light circular scratch a cm in you speak of...

If its the same one,

Its supposed to be there, its part of the disk. It divides the part of the disk up between the data and the spindle.

Re: New Xbox making light circular scratches

If they're scratches then no that is not normal. Possible reasons would be the console being moved/knocked while reading, the console not being completely horizontal or vertical (at an angle). It could also be a faulty drive but you would have to be pretty unlucky to have this on two from new.

Re: New Xbox making light circular scratches

I'm fairly certain that the ring you mention on the disc 1cm from inner edge is where data is seperated, all my discs have it.

Why do some people have this and some people don't though?

I mean, the disks have no marks before they go in, afterwards this small circular mark?

Have a close look at any new disc and you can see a fine circle about 1 cm in from the middle.

Re: New Xbox making light circular scratches

If not it could be that your lens has scratch it. This usually happens if the 360 is moved while a disk is spinning inside, OR if the console is used in the Vertical position.

Post a picture of the marks you're referring to and we can then say definitively if it's an issue or not.
