Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

Just been playing for an hour on MW2 and suddenly got 2 red lights on the left of the circle. Did a google and it says its overheated. This is the first time I've had a problem and I've had an XBOX since launch - this is my second as I upgraded to an Elite. Should I be worried?

Re: Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

this may have happend due to various things, i highly doubt that it will have happend because of mw2, try to leave it in a cool place for a bit, oh do you have a cooling fan for your 360? if you do... TAKE IT OFF. i have mucked up 3 xbox's due to those lousy things it over heats it.

Re: Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

A game will not overheat an xbox. The xbox will overheat the xbox!

Common problem i'm afraid and can sometimes happen with no warning.

If it's a launch box, it's time to invest in a new one i'm afraid!

Re: Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

Nah it's not a launch one, bought it about 18 months ago. Just been on the Xbox site and apparently 3 red lights is covered by a 3 year warranty but 2 isn't. I'm sure as hell not going to pay a lot of money to get it fixed. Think I may be forced in to PS3 land if there is no easy fix. Does anyone know of any high street shops that do Xbox fixes?

A fix by anyone other than MS will likely not last long. The only sure way for piece of mind is with an MS repair complete with warranty.

Re: Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

Did you check for an error code?
Xbox 360 Error Lights/Codes - Difficulty 1/10 - Xbox 360 Tutorials - Xbox 360 Downloads - Xbox 360 Homebrew, Xbox 360 Hacking, Xbox 360 Modchips, Xbox 360 Dashboards, Xbox 360 Bios, Xbox 360 Softmods, Xbox 360 Auto Installers
Maybe the power brick is overheating.

Re: Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

been quoted £80 from MS for a repair, seems a bit steep when a basic 360 isn't *that* much more!

Will check the power brick tonight, I have a feeling it might be that as I have it stuffed under the TV stand. Mind, it's been there for months so not sure why it suddenly plays up now.

Will give it a go tonight and see what happens.

Thanks for all the help fellas.

Re: Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

Instal the game to the HDD and just be sure its got some air. If you got a mini desk fan, use that to get air inside the console.

You want the air going in (Assuming its on its side) the right hand side (The end opposite the HDD)

Re: Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

Just phone MS and tell them you have the 3 red lights and they will take it away and fix it. My Flatmate had the same problem, 2 red lights but told MS it was 3 red lights and they sent UPS to collect it and in the end MS replaced the motherboard. It did not cost anything as was covered by the 3 year warranty.

Re: Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

If the overheat occurs straight away when you turn on then it will need the GPU reflowing at least.

If it takes a bit of gaming to overheat then it could alternatively be some of the following reasons:

1. Are both fans spinning up
2. It could be clogged up with dust
3. One of the xclamps may have sprung off a heatsink underneath the board

The 3 possibilities above aren't that hard to sort. If it needs reflowing then Microsoft are your best bet probably for reliability but obviously expensive. I would be tempted to look at picking up a Jasper console and selling yours off in bits on ebay.

Re: Has MW2 killed my XBOX?

Mine had two lights regularly, along with crashes and freezing problems, asked on here and got the advice to send it off, takes about a week to ten days, and they sent back another console with a letter stating that due to it taking so long to repair them, they just replace them. Also sent a months XBox live gold which will come in handy.

just checked my repair status and it says...

Device shipped to customer - Your console has been repaired or replaced. We are shipping it back to you.

Hmmm, wonder if they have repaired it or are just returning it as it only had 2 red lights, not 3?

Does it have a "manufacture date" or "service date" on the back of it?
