Are the current xbox elites quiet?

I am thinking of getting an XBox Elite for christmas as Amazon has a great offer on.

But what is the noise like on these. Has MS fixed it?
Are all the new Elites quieter or do I need to be careful which one i get?

Re: Are the current xbox elites quiet?

I got a new Elite a couple of moths ago. It's just as noisy as my 3 year old Pro model. I run games from the hard drive but the fans still make a hell of a racket. It's not a problem for gaming but the noise can intrude when watching films.

Re: Are the current xbox elites quiet?

I agree - I got an elite last week. Noisier than my 3 year old one in fact. Quite a high pitched whine. Useless for watching DVDs or using SkyPlayer.

Re: Are the current xbox elites quiet?

Ive just got a new Jasper model and it is quiet.
The best way to describe it is: when you download content when console is off quiet if you are playing games from hdd and the dvd drive aint much louder. I've noticed the fans are larger too.

I noticed there seemed to be a much better draw of air through the sides when I
was moving mine the other day.

Just loading Lost Planet onto the hard drive & it's pretty noisy. So the DVD's
are still pretty noisy but I think the console itself is a bit quieter.

On the plus side the bigger disk means more games on hdd = quieter as your
not playing from dvd.

Has it arrived yet?
I moved my old one into the front room to persuade SWMBO that a new one would be a sound investment...
After 20 minutes she asked me to turn it off and go buy one

Good lad, nice move.

No not arrived yet... I'm a cheapskate and went for Amazons free (but takes forever delivery option).

It was despatched yesterday so there is still time it might arrive today...

My top tip is to have it delivered to a work address (if possible otherwise it's a pants tip...)
I normally have to wait 2 days from the time of ordering. Plus I don't arrive home to find parcels on the doorstep (wet), in the garage (mauled by the dog), in the shed (stinking of wet grass) or even less helpfully back at the central Wakefield post office which has bugger all parking when I finally get my sad sorry backside out of bed!

Re: Are the current xbox elites quiet?

Fired it up last night and spent about an hour setting it up!
Couldn't decide on what my Avatar should wear

I thought the machine was really quiet.

Finally only got chance for 30mins of gaming, Forza 3.

Once your in a game the noise of the xbox increases quite a bit.

It's pretty shocking that they have still not sorted the noise out.
It was bad on the original xbox and its still pretty bad.
You shouldn't have to hear it at all.

I'm off to get the XBox HDMI AV cable at lunch as I want to get the digital out to my amp. Again one of these should be in the box really.

I'm still impressed with it though...

install the games to the hard drive as this cuts back on the noise a good bit.

How do I do this?

When I played Forza it "announced" that I could add more cars and tracks etc if I installed the second disc to the hard drive. Is that all you need to do?

Does this mean I don't need the disc in the drive to play?

with forza after install of disc 2 you dont need the disc anymore, however with any other installed game the disc needs to be in the drive and it will spin up to check then stop and play from the harddrive.

To install a game load a disc and if the game loads up quit the game and go back to the dashboard, the scroll down the blades untill it gets to the play "game" icon then press the y button and an option should appear to allow you to install the game to the harddrive.
