360 has died! Help

Dear All,
I have an xbox 360 20gb model. Had it since sept 2006 and tonight it has died. It boots but within 60 seconds of doing anything it freezes. It has happened 20 times tonight in space of 40 mins.

So I guess i need a new one. I connect my 360 to a 26inch monitor via vga as it has no hdmi port. If I buy a new 360 is this still an option even with the elite?

Finally can I retain my gamer tag and all my saved games, I am halfway through Halo ODST and would rather not start again.

thanks for any help

Josh
