Shipping My Xbox 360 Due to Red Rings...

..So mine died on me as well

I've emailed microsoft and got the labels for a repair centre in germany , Just wondered if anyone here can answer some question i have?

How does it work, i've never used ups before, so i'm not familiar with the process, apparently someone is going to pick up my broke xbox tomorrow morning, i have to package it myself and just stick the label they have emailed me on the box?

is that it?

how do they know where to return it?

I'm sure it will all be alright, i just can't help but think i'm never gonna see it again

Anyone else got any experience to set my mind at ease?

thank for any help you can offer.

Am i worrying about nothing?

Yup thats it

MS have your address on file from when you registered the console (and you must have registered it to be able to have it repaired) so they send it back to the address thats registered with them once they've done what needs to be done (probably sending out a refurb'd console almost straight away). No need to worry, it normally takes 1 - 2 weeks and then you should be gaming again

Re: Shipping My Xbox 360 Due to Red Rings...

Yeah, there really is nothing to worry about, mine was back with me in 8 days from when it was collected.

The warranty will continue for the red rings/ e74 error until the original 3 years is up, then I THINK you get 90 days on top. For everything else as the regular 1 year warranty is up if you registered in April 08, you get 90 days from the date it is returned to you.

so if the red rings happens after the warranty is up, what would be the advice?

i don't want to have to buy a new xbox every 18 months, how do you get it repaired after that?

Seems bad business.

Re: Shipping My Xbox 360 Due to Red Rings...

After 3 years then you are out of warranty with MS, but they will still fix it (for a price). Most people would probably try and DIY fix it as apparently it's fairly easy to do (not an option I would choose though, personally).

Others have quoted legal rights to MS and they have given repairs for free, there is a thread somewhere on here with a load of legal info but I can't remember what its called unfortunately

Also, welcome to AVF

Hopefully nothing will go wrong with me sending it off

Just gonna go to the post office and find something suitable to pack it with, do you advise just a small box and a load of bubblewrap?

what did you use to send it back?
mayb e i can use the box it came in, i've still got it.

Re: Shipping My Xbox 360 Due to Red Rings...

I used the cardboard box mine came in (not the normal packaging, a random cardboard box as I bought my first xbox on ebay second hand) and stuffed it full of bubblewrap. I wouldn't use the original packaging as you wont get it back.

Also make sure to only send the console, remove the hard drive, cables, disc etc and if you have a custom faceplate remove that too.

Thats weird because I'm sure i read it comes back in the same packaging it goes in?

I'm not sure i got another cardboard box to send it in, i think i'll just use the xbox box, i don't mind if i don't get it back really.

MS state that you don't send it in the original packing, it's just to disguise the fact it's an xbox, even though UPS know when they read the label.

The guy just picked it up, he reckons it will only take about a week and he said "Microsoft are keeping us in business"

Its weird i didn't have to sign anything to say he picked it up, but i trust in UPS

they dont, well they do, but you will more than likely get the email after its been delivered back to you.
the UPS guy will deliver it, and if you arent in, he will leave a card to arrange a new dropoff.

iTS ON What was wrong with yours by the way, I had the one red ring E74 error message

Edit - Yeah yours is the same E74 too. My consoles about 3 and half years old which they replaced my launch one with after that one died. I'm hoping they send me a refurbished newer moder with a hdmi port. But I think the E74 is a easy fix tho so prob not

Re: Shipping My Xbox 360 Due to Red Rings...

Mine is also E74 error!

COD6 caused it, loaded the very first mission, moved about a foot 'in-game' and the screen froze, rebooted, and got the E74 error.

My console was a HDMI one from Sept' 2007 though.

According to ups.com and the tracking code on the label: Your package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 16/11/2009.

if it didnt come in a 360 box, with pad/power supply, etc, then its not new, just a refurb.
they package all 360's in their own brown box/foam insert on return, no matter what you send them in.
