Plugging in an Optical Cable

Hi all
Am I being utterly stupid here?!

I have a 360 Elite and have my TV connected to it via a standard HDMI cable. I have just bought an optical cable as I would like to plug a mixamp in but I can not find an optical port on the back?

Is there one or do I have to purchase a dongle type thing?

Its on a dongle unfortunatley, did your Elite come in a white box (bought within the last two months) or is it bit older? If its older then a dongle should have been in the box, newer white box and they cost-cut the dongle out

True words, you need the dongle since there is no direct output off the motherboard itself
